Duties and Responsibilities
Loyola University Chicago (LUC), School of Social Work invites applications for a full-time Youth Violence Prevention Specialist who will work on Loyola STOP School Violence (LSSV) project. The Loyola STOP School Violence (LSSV) project, funded by the Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, will develop, implement and evaluate age-appropriate, school-specific, trauma-informed, and evidence-based school violence prevention training programs. Youth violence prevention specialist plays a key role implementing the LSSV prevention programs and trainings among a wide range of students (7th – 12th) and teachers in partner schools in Chicago. The start date of this position is August 2022, but is negotiable.

Duties and Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Principal Investigator and Project Manager, this position plays a significant role to complete LSSV project’s goals and objectives.
  • Support the mission and other duties of the LSSV project as assigned
  • Attend scheduled meetings, conferences, and project related trainings
  • Provide curriculum-guided group work, case management, mentoring, afterschool program and general prevention training to target students, parents and/or school personnel
  • Identify and recruit target students for the LSSV project
  • Organize and support students’ violence prevention related activities and special events in partner schools
  • Conduct outreach to and establish collaborative relationships with appropriate community resources
  • Collaborate and maintain strong relationship with members of the LSSV project team, staff in partner schools and community agencies
  • Supervise and guide college intern students and volunteers
  • Assist Principal Investigator and Project Manager to collect performance data, evaluate project’s outcomes and prepare required reports according to funder’s guidelines
  • Assist Principal Investigator and Project Manager to develop school-based violence prevention programs, conduct research and disseminate the project’s results


Minimum Education and/or Work Experience

Qualifications
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Interest and knowledge of issues related to school violence prevention
  • Ability to work effectively with peers, individual youth and groups
  • Be passionate about disadvantaged minority youth and preventing school violence among this population
  • Demonstrate self-initiative and ability to do multifaceted work
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, social services, public health, criminal justice, or education (Graduate degree preferred)
  • 2-3 years of working experience as a violence prevention specialist in schools or communities

Computer Skills
Experience with MS Office: Word; Excel; Powerpoint
