Job Description
LOCATION: Hybrid, Claremont, NH
SALARY RANGE: $24 - $30 per hour
HOURS: 40hrs
BASIC FUNCTION
The Youth Program Specialist is responsible for planning and implementing high-quality programs that improve health and wellness outcomes for youth ages 11-21. Priority areas include substance use prevention, mental health, teen pregnancy prevention, and LGBTQ+ health. The YP Specialist will actively participate in team projects and initiatives designed to advance membership, increase program participation, and further develop youth programs based on strategic goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TIME ON TASK EXPECTATIONS
Program Development (30% of time)
  • Direct and supervise program activities with staff, volunteers, and youth to meet the needs of the community and fulfill TLC’s objectives
  • Develop a variety of pro-social activities, field trips, and discussions with teen youth, including a community service project.
  • Regularly and appropriately engage youth through the following venues: face-to-face contacts, telephone, social networking, e-mail etc.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations and schools
  • Develop, implement, and provide programs and direct services to youth ages 11-21
  • Expand programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans
  • Coordinate arrangements with venues, sites, and activity locations
  • Develop leadership, teamwork, and self-advocacy skills with youth by encouraging the development of positive relationships and assisting them in the development of self-advocacy skills, initiative and accountability
  • Manage youth and volunteers to ensure the safety and well-being of each youth participant
  • Works with youth in building a trusting relationship
  • Build and manage a volunteer program to support youth initiatives
Parent Engagement (30 % of time)
  • Develop topics, plan agendas, and co-facilitate monthly parent/caregiver education groups centered around building positive parenting skills and education about pre-adolescent development
  • Design and implement incentives to promote attendance and participation of both youth and parents/caregivers
  • Collaborate with outside organizations to invite facilitators to present valuable information to parents/caregivers
Education (15% of time)
  • Make direct contact with students who have completed online class registration
  • Receive training in, plan for and implement the evidence-based Get Real Curriculum
  • Develop and build strong relationships with local middle schools
  • Deliver classes/workshops according to agreed upon schedule and to curriculum fidelity
Documentation (15 % of time)
  • Survey youth quarterly for continued engagement
  • Track progress of program development
  • Accurately report time worked
Meetings/Trainings (10% of time)
  • Participate in required team meetings and supervision
  • Complete agency required and professional trainings related to roles and responsibilities
  • Participate in annual Performance Review
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Coordinate and manage volunteers
REQUIREMENTS
  • Knowledge of youth behavioral strategies
  • Knowledge of family dynamics, and positive parenting strategies
  • 2+ years experience working with youth
  • Knowledge of child and teen developmental concepts and strategies
  • Experience designing and implementing programs in a community setting
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Applications
  • Associates Degree in education or human service field (preferred)
