Position Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Youth Programs, the Youth Programs Manager will work in conjunction with the youth programs team to achieve and grow the following results for the Division of Kennedy Mountain Campus, Wellness and Recreation: achieve a sold out PASS Camp program with sales of $900,000, coordination of the School Days Off program to achieve over $150,000 sales annually, and expanding our Learn to Play sports programs and camps to achieve over $175,000 in sales annually. Programming is to be managed to the core values of the Ritchie Center with an emphasis on safety, service above self, quality, customer experience management, and accountability. The Youth Programs Manager will identify, implement, and execute new programming trends that keep youth programs current, relevant, and aligned with the Division of Kennedy Mountain Campus, Wellness & Recreation philosophy. The Youth Programs Manager is responsible for leading and managing an instructional and coaching staff team of 50 part-time team members that ensures an exceptional customer experience and high-quality programming to all participants in Youth Programs.
Position will be required to work a varied schedule will include evenings, nights, and weekends.

Essential Functions

Program Administration (30%)

  • Work with the Assistant Director of Youth Programs and Budget & Finance Coordinator to accurately develop, forecast, and analyze program budgets.
  • Be present during all programs and/or events; possess the ability to jump into the program to coach or instruct as needed.
  • Utilize various existing technology platforms to execute programs including but not limited to: scheduling software, pos system, health record management system, and facility operations communication system.
  • In coordination with the Assistant Director of Marketing & Communication, develop program marketing plans for current and potential youth program participants and adhere to developed marketing plans throughout the fiscal year.
  • Oversees and provides leadership for Ritchie Center Youth Programs including PASS Camp, School Days Off, Learn to Play Sports and Youth Fitness.
  • Manage youth programs revenue/expense budget in a fiscally responsible manner and achieve approved fiscal goals.
  • Work in conjunction with the Assistant Director of Youth Programs and the Youth Programs Manager to develop all curricula for new and existing Youth Programs.

People Management (30%)

  • Utilize all necessary means to ensure adequate communication to all youth programs staff. This includes using the Connect2 software, email lists, physical signage, and any other means necessary.
  • Lead, manage, and develop a strong youth programs team of approximately 50 student and non-appointed staff members. Responsible for recruitment, hiring and scheduling of part-time staff team.
  • Schedule, organize and lead informational youth programs staff meetings and in-service training sessions as outlined in the Internal Operations part-time staff manual.
  • Responsible for providing initial and on-going training for all youth programs staff to ensure that all policies, procedures and operating protocols are understood and executed. Ensure that all youth programs staff have completed necessary certifications/trainings and audit records quarterly to prevent non-compliance.
  • Day-to-day management and supervision of youth programs staff including timekeeping, policies and procedures training, and annual performance reviews.

Safety and Risk Management (20%)

  • Work in conjunction with Youth Programs Manager and Assistant Director of Youth Programs to comply with Colorado Childcare Licensing rules and regulations including but not limited to: program execution, staff training and background checks, instructor to participant ratio.
  • Conduct ongoing emergency response training and drills with team members on a designated schedule.
  • Ensure youth programs staff is conducting safety checks of fields, ice, studios, courts, pool and equipment prior to the start of the activity, practice, workout or events.
  • Ensure all accident/incident reports have been completed correctly and reports are properly stored in CampDoc and follow-ups have been conducted via phone and conversation documented within 48 hours of injury.
  • Ensure all staff members in the youth programs area are CPR/AED/First Aid and Concussion certified, hold appropriate industry certifications, and have all Colorado Childcare Licensing requirements completed prior to working first shift.

Customer Service (10%)

  • Model excellence through our service above self framework in all customer interactions to serve as an example for other divisional full and part time staff.
  • Maintain problem-solving perspective at all times related to customer service interactions. This includes addressing issues and offering solutions.
  • Manage all communication centers to ensure information is accurate and available to internal and external parties. This includes general information, contact information, special details (parking, closures, etc.) and registration information.
  • Always maintain proper uniform/appearance when representing the University of Denver and the Division of Kennedy Mountain Campus, Wellness, & Recreation.

Other/Job Specific (10%)

  • Develop and maintain relationships and collaboration with DU Divisions (Athletics, HRIC, etc.) to promote youth programs and reciprocal relationship.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with nearby schools and local youth sports organizations for the benefit of University of Denver youth programs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Organization and Time Management Skills: Recognizes priorities and schedules them to meet deadlines on all deliverables. Ability to stay organized and be detail oriented.
  • Coaching and Instructional Knowledge: Experience and understanding of how to work with children ages 5-18 in sports and wellness settings.
  • Language Skills: ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to be able to operate work-related equipment. The employee must be able to frequently move about the facility with capability of transporting equipment or objects up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to effectively communicate verbally with customers and employees of the university.
  • Work Environment: The employee works in an active sports and wellness environment. Interruptions occur frequently and the stress level is moderate. Evening, weekend, and holiday hours are required with this position.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, percentages, and participation statistics.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, or schedule form.

Required Qualifications

  • CPR/AED/First Aid/Bloodborne Pathogen/Concussion Training
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in recreation, outdoor education, elementary or early childhood education, or a subject in the human services field; or an equivalent combination of education and childcare experience to meet Program Director standards required by Colorado Childcare Licensure regulations.
  • 1 year of related experience
  • Be 21 years of age

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 years of related experience
  • Colorado Child Care License Knowledge
  • Master’s Degree in recreation, outdoor education, elementary or early childhood education, or a subject in the human services field

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment.
  • Noise level is moderate.
  • During programs and events, the working environment would be hands-on in a gymnasium, outdoor field, pool area or other sport-specific space. Significant time is spent outdoors during summer months.

Physical Activities

  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 50 lbs. with assistance.
  • Occasionally, support programming at the Kennedy Mountain Campus in Red Feather Lakes, Colorado.
  • During programs and events, must be able to move about the building and campus and rotate between indoors and outdoors from April through October.
  • Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $52,000 - $58,000.
