Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Assoc. Exec Director, the Youth Community & Outreach Director is responsible for leading and developing assigned Youth & Outreach Programs and staff. They must run the program with safety in the forefront. The Youth Community & Outreach Director is responsible for managing the functions of the program in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the YMCA.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides leadership and sets vision for all community outreach programs. This includes setting standards, program design, training staff, and putting a system in place to measure outcomes within programs. Communicates the established goals and vision of the Outreach programs to employees and volunteers and counsels them on methods to implement those goals and vision.
  • Serves as a YMCA liaison and advocate for outreach communities. Develops trust within the outreach communities through in-home visits, family events and serving as a bridge for other community resources. Connecting community members with needed services and resources.
  • Fulfills department/branch obligations as required by supervisor/Branch Director i.e. “on-call” weekends, large youth events, trainings, etc.
  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
  • Leads/supports the branch’s efforts to strengthen volunteerism in youth program areas and provides direction and coaching to other departments to create stronger volunteer recruitment, trainings and recognition.
  • Plans and organizes day-to-day operations and is present in assigned programs based on Association Program Guidelines, which include daily program schedule and staff schedules.
  • Responsible for collecting, compiling, and sharing data from our Y-Learning programs with donors, board members, and the community at large.
  • Responsible for actively sharing stories of impact within the YMCA community as well as the broader community.
  • Provides branch with resources on crisis intervention, child assessments and specialized staff training.
  • Maintains a flexible work schedule, including some evening and weekends as needed.
  • Submit quarterly reports documenting populations served and achieved outcomes.

    • Y-learning: Club Boulevard, Eastway Elementary and Hope Valley Elementary at Westminster Presbyterian Church
    • YMCA Teen program at Cristo Rey

  • Leads and guides a full time Community Development Director
  • Participates and leads association teams and projects as assigned. Attends all meetings that are pertinent to this position including youth, branch, and any assigned association team meetings.
  • Recruits and hires staff and volunteers across multiple dimensions of diversity. Responsible for onboarding and developing them for success.
  • YMCA Teen program at Cristo Rey
  • Maintains all records of their assigned programs that are necessary for the operation of the department and branch effectively. Assist in gathering needed information for grant writers and executes grant requirements including reporting.
  • Provides opportunities to collaborate with outside organizations, utilizing the YMCA for educational events and trainings and vice versa.
  • Plans and promotes high quality and engaging programming for assigned youth programs, with an emphasis on safety, relationships, skill development, character development, group control and fun.
  • Camp High Hopes
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Y-learning: Club Boulevard, Eastway Elementary and Hope Valley Elementary at Westminster Presbyterian Church
  • Continually evaluates, improves, and innovates all assigned programs to ensure they meet or exceed Association guidelines and standards.
  • Provide leadership to the YMCA Annual Campaign through development of staff team, recruiting volunteers and meeting annual fundraising goals as assigned. Supports Branch Executives in planning and execution of Annual Campaign Volunteer events.
  • Works with Branch Leadership to developing a branch plan for the Durham YMCAs to address long and short-term needs and goals within our municipalities.
  • Maintains current and required certifications and records for staff according to the YMCA of the Triangle requirements.
  • Holiday Care
  • Responsible for the development and management of all aspects of program budgets and resources.
  • Contributes to and supervise the fulfillment of the YMCA mission through the Youth Department activities and programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Requires a positive attitude, high level of initiative and professionalism, and enjoy working in and creating a strong team environment.
  • Possess a high level of organization, ability to prioritize and possess the capacity to respond and handle multiple tasks appropriately in a dynamic and fast paced work environment.
  • Multi-lingual desired but no required.
  • Demonstrate initiative, effectively prioritize, and possess strong organizational, analytical and project management skills.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Ability to effectively manage staff and programs.
  • Exceptional oral, public speaking and written communication skills.
  • Capacity to assist in the management of facilities, equipment, and programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in program and personnel development.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and/or 2-3 years of experience in community case work and outreach programming.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer for extended periods of time and be able to communicate using a computer and phone/smart device.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • CPR, AED, O2 and First Aid certifications and a commercial Driver’s License, with “P” endorsement, in order to drive a YMCA bus as needed.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • The YMCA of the Triangle requires employees to comply with all COVID related PPE, cleaning, reporting and prevention expectations efforts. Further training and detail will be provided upon question and/or hire.
