Ymca Kid Zone Staff - Newport Mesa

The YMCA of Orange County has an opening for a Kid Zone Assistant. We are hiring immediately for applicants that have some experience working with children and have open availability for morning and afternoon shifts. Shifts are available Monday to Saturday. Kid Zone staff supervise children and ensure they are having a good time while their parents participate in YMCA activities.

Current open shifts:

• Saturday: 7:00 am - 1:00 pm
• Monday - Thursday: 7:30am- 1:00pm & 2:30pm - 7:30pm.
• Friday: 7:30am -12:30pm (only)

Responsibilities:

• Follow posted activity calendars and schedules. Be prepared to lead activities daily.
• Participate in branch and department events and meetings as assigned.
• Build professional relationships with members and staff. Model Y values to others.
• Follow enrollment and attendance procedures outlined in Kid Zone Standard Operating Procedures.
• Provide excellent customer service to members and follow up on concerns.
• Ensure health & safety standards are met daily (i.e. opening/closing checks, excluding ill children, sanitizing toys, removing possible dangers).
• Implement age appropriate child guidance practices.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Be prepared for emergencies and carryout assigned responsibilities during incidents.
• Provide supervision that is visual, proactive and interactive. Monitor headcounts and ratios.
• Engage members in other Y activities and Kid Zone Programs.
• Carry out all duties in a honest, ethical and professional manner.
• Report incidents promptly, including mandatory child abuse reporting.
• Facilitate member involvement through volunteer participation and development.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The following are the minimum qualifications which an individual needs in order to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this position. Please note that the minimum qualifications may vary based upon the department size and/or geographic location.

Education & Certifications: CPR/First Aid Certificates required.

Experience & Background: Must be at least 16 years of age with a valid work permit. 2 years previous work experience with children ages 6 weeks to 11 years preferred.

Skills/Abilities:

• Ability to be an effective member of project teams.
• Ability to interact effectively at all ages, levels and across diverse cultures; and
• Excellent verbal communication skills;
• Strong customer and results orientation;
