Assistant Sport Coach

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

  • Head Sport Coach
  • Dean of Athletics, and/or Assistant Athletic Director

POSITONS REPORTING TO THIS POSITION:

  • Student Workers as approved

PURPOSE;

  • This position, under the direction of the Head Coach, independently performs and is responsible for (1) assisting the Head Coach in the coordination of a safe, enthusiastic, growing sports program, (2) the recruitment, supervision, and coaching of NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) athletes, under the guidelines of the college, KCAC (Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference) and NAIA policies and procedures, and (3) working with all staff to provide a quality program and encourage student athletes in both athletic excellence and good sportsmanship.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist in arranging team travel and meals.
  • Take the initiative to provide new ideas and concepts to improve the efficiency and productivity of the staff.
  • Participate in staff and team meetings, providing input and suggestions.
  • Assist in planning and leading pre- and post-season individual meetings with student-athletes to discuss progress, development, and goals.
  • Assist in overseeing the safety conditions of the facility or area in which the sport is conducted at all times.
  • Carry out other related administrative duties as directed by the Head Coach, Dean of Athletics, and Assistant Athletic Director.
  • Keep abreast of current trends and methods by participating in clinics, workshops, etc. that contribute to professional development and self-improvement.
  • Adhere to all College spending policies and procedures.
  • Assist in formulating the team’s competitive schedule.
  • Cooperate with other coaches in providing the optimum sports program possible under existing conditions.
  • Assist in preparing timely and accurate documents, such as travel expense statements, itineraries, etc.
  • Assist in general upkeep and protection of equipment under the jurisdiction of the program.
  • Create and foster a positive environment of growth, development, and support for student-athletes, both in and out of sport. Negative, demeaning, and derogatory coaching and communication tactics will not be tolerated.
  • Lead community engagement and service-learning opportunities within the sport program.
  • Adhere to the operational sport budget.
  • Adhere to College recruitment scholarship model.
  • Actively lead fundraising efforts for the sport program, as well as for the Department of Athletics.
  • Foster cooperative working relationships with immediate supervisor as well as any staff or team members associated with the program.
  • Assist in coordinating visits by recruits and their families.
  • Assists in the administration of all phases of a NAIA sports program including recruiting qualified student athletes.
  • Assist in providing continual evaluation of processes and procedures. Responsible for suggesting methods to improve area operations, efficiency and service to both internal and external customers.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
  • Lead, support, and prioritize student retention and persistence to graduation.
  • Assist in organizing and training student-athletes for successful and safe competition.
  • Support the Department of Athletics mission, vision, and values.
  • Assist in planning and conducting pre- and post-season conditioning and training programs.
  • Adhere to college, KCAC and NAIA policies and procedures.
  • Assist in monitoring and supporting the academic success of student athletes.
  • Help prepare and manage records for the team.
  • Work in collaboration and cooperation with other departments and academic divisions on campus, using timely and appropriate judgment in upward communication regarding department concerns and responsibilities

Athletic Administrative Assistant

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform all other duties as assigned
  • Assist in the counting and deposit process of concessions money box and gate money box.
  • Take and return phone calls and emails as needed and assigned.
  • Coordinate concessions purchasing, inventory, and sign-up process.
  • Provide administrative support for the Department of Athletics; and assist with daily tasks for the Department, the Dean of Athletics, and Assistant Athletic Director.
  • Prepare locker rooms for visiting teams and officials.
  • Assist in providing continual evaluation of processes and procedures. Responsible for suggesting methods to improve area operations, efficiency and service to both internal and external customers.
  • Carry out other administrative duties as needed and directed by the Dean of Athletics and Assistant Athletic Director.
  • Coordinate the supplies for all printers in the Athletics Complex.
  • Assist with the scheduling and training of student workers as needed.
  • Assist with the scheduling and coordinating of events as needed and assigned.
  • Complete and communicate game day protocols to all visiting teams prior to arrival.

Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to handle multiple projects/assignments concurrently and be results-oriented.
  • Regular Attendance Required
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge of desktop publishing
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from constituents, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to a variety of audiences, including students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, administration, and the community-at-large.
  • Highly motivated and works well both independently and in a team environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree required. (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Must have a clear understanding of the NAIA philosophy and the role of athletics in a private, church related liberal arts setting

COMPUTER COMPETENCIES:

  • Competent in email and document management
  • Functional knowledge with Microsoft Windows
  • Basic personal computer operation
  • Ability to use multiple Internet browsers
  • Willingness to adapt to a changing technology environment, i.e. updates, security, and new versions
  • Functional knowledge with Microsoft Office

PHYSICAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks, such as operating dangerous equipment or working with chemicals, but includes exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases. Work outside involves considerable exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. Semi-frequent or frequent conference-wide travel, or to assigned locations; frequent prolonged and irregular hours. Work performed indoors is generally with ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment.

TRAVEL: Travel as required by team schedule, as determined by coaching staff, Dean of Athletics, Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC), and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
