POSITION DESCRIPTION


AREA: High School Business Teacher Beginning 2023-2024 School year


LOCATION: Whitefish High School

SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT:


The business teacher is responsible for creating a classroom environment that develops in each student the knowledge, skills and dispositions needed to be prepared for postsecondary success. These measures are based on benchmarks of success that include academic content knowledge, cognitive and higher-order thinking strategies, critical thinking and problem solving, collaboration and communication, and grit/resilience/perseverance. The business teacher will teach College will and Career Readiness courses utilizing the school’s CCR curriculum as a means to meet Montana State Standards. In addition, the business teacher will teach Broadcast Journalism utilizing state of the art technology and equipment in a high-tech recording studio with adjoining classroom.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (
Whitefish Public Schools seeks candidates with strong character, passion for excellence and a relentless commitment to student achievement. Applicants should also meet the following requirements);


  • Demonstrated experience with the utilization and instruction of multimedia technology.
  • Valid Montana secondary Business Teaching Certificate
  • Ability to integrate written and verbal communication with various forms of technology to create multimedia productions.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Background and experience utilizing the types of skills typically used in broadcast journalism, including interviewing, public speaking, videography, editing and production.
  • Understands, embraces and promotes the ability to think critically and solve problems, communicate effectively, work collaboratively, and be self-directed in the learning process.
  • Strong background using and applying mathematics, English and Language Arts/Literacy resources and technology in the classroom.
  • Although not required, multiple high school teaching endorsements are beneficial and provide flexibility to support future enrollment growth and evolving academic needs over time.
  • Ability and willingness to work with students in extracurricular or co-curricular activities.
  • Background experience and ability to teach high school-level courses that prepare students to successfully plan and pursue postsecondary education, training and a career path aligned to their personal goals, with the ability to adapt and innovate as job demands change.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to):

  • Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, District Policy and Administrative regulations.

  • Meets and instructs assigned class(s) in the locations and at times assigned.
  • Develops, prepares, and delivers district curriculum utilizing the Montana Common Core Standards
  • Cooperates with Administration and other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, methods and ascertaining student guided activities and self-guided activities.
  • May need to teach in any area of endorsement(s)
  • Guides students through the process of planning for their future through the refinement of skills necessary for college and career success
  • Respects authority and carries out Board Policy and Administrative directive.
  • Accepts a share of responsibility for co-curricular activities as assigned.
  • Prepares for classes assigned and prepares and maintains weekly lesson plans articulating the prescribed curriculum.
  • Assists in selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.
  • Instructs students using effective instructional strategies such as research projects, group discussions, collaboration, and project based learning
  • Communicates effectively with students, staff, and parents
  • Provides for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program of readings, workshops, seminars, conferences and/or advanced coursework at institutions of higher learning.
  • Designs learning experiences grounded in Rigor, Relevance and Relationships
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the needs and capabilities of the students.
  • Lives and models the school’s core values with colleagues, students, parents and the larger community
  • Takes all reasonable and necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Devotes the necessary time and energy required to master the craft of teaching.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Practices teaching as an integration of disciplines - a team approach
  • Uses innovative approaches to teaching and is open to feedback from colleagues and school administration.
  • Fulfills other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Prepares and maintains course content sheets.
  • Integrates thinking strategies and study skills throughout all disciplines
  • Implements principles of integrated literacy and reading skills.
  • Takes holistic accountability for student success- taking ownership of each student’s academic success or failure
  • Communicates student progress to parents.
  • Provides differentiated instruction to ensure the success of all learners
  • Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to work with the District and Building Vision in mind—preparing students for College, Career, and Citizenship.
  • Assists students to organize stories and associated visualizations for regular presentation to the student body by video broadcast
  • Actively participates in the school’s professional development programs including data analysis and planning, leading and participating in best practice sessions, peer coaching, and attending conferences.
  • Implements through instruction and action, the District's philosophy of instruction and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Develops and maintains unit plans.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This type of work involves walking, standing, and sitting for extended periods of time as required by situations of job position. Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral and written information, the manual dexterity to move related equipment, and the skills necessary to handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.May be required to lift or move up to 20 pounds. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

School year working days as set by the Board of Trustees. Salary, benefits and other working conditions as negotiated between the Whitefish School District and Whitefish Education Association and as assigned by the administration.


EVALUATION:

Performance of said duties will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
