Job Description
Position Summary

The part -time Wellness Curriculum Instructor is primarily responsible for teaching wellness and fitness courses, which include classroom instruction to Spelman College students throughout the academic year. These courses fulfill the institution’s general education wellness requirements for graduation. Additionally, the instructor offers excellent group physical learning experiences to the college community through the Department of Campus Wellness. This is a temporary assignment ineligible for any benefits offered by Spelman College.

Will work a schedule of 3 hours per week between the hours of 10:00am-11:00am. Course days are still to be determined.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Must be certified with a minimum of 300 hours of experience in Yoga
  • Plans and leads exercise and/or classroom learning sessions for the following course:
  • Teaches 1-3 instructional wellness courses per semester
Yoga and Meditation
  • Maintain one weekly office hour; attend departmental meetings
  • Motivates participants and encourages classroom participation
  • Can create assessment criteria to show levels of proficiency of the students in class
  • Participates in continuous improvement workshops and/or activities for college in-services opportunities
  • Delivers health and wellness materials
  • Must maintain records of student’s participation and performance


Required Qualifications
Masters required and a minimum of 3 – 5 years of related working experience, preferably in education, health education, physical education or recreation and/or other related fields.
This position is customer service focused. Effective oral and written communication skills and excellent time management skills are required. The individual must have a professional demeanor and be able to interface with internal and external customers diplomatically. Independent judgment is necessary to plan, prioritize and execute the duties of this position. The individual must be able to organize a diversified workload with attention to detail, generate spreadsheets, graphs, and Power Point presentations.

Excellent oral communication skills are required when providing information and responding to questions from students, employees and faculty in one-on-one or group situations. The individual must be able to write business correspondence and procedure manuals plus compose memos, letters, and emails. Good proofreading skills are essential. The individual must be able to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
