Job Description
St. Gertrude's is looking for a Therapeutic Recreation Coordinator to assist residents with their therapeutic and leisure pursuits. You will be required to plan and implement programming as well as complete documentation. Must enjoy working the elderly and be able to adapt to an ever-changing environment. MDS and previous experience working with the elderly is preferred not required.


The Wellness Coordinator is responsible for meeting the social and therapeutic needs of the residents through activities, wellness interventions, leisure programming, and continued interaction with community groups.


Completes the wellness assigned portion of the assessment process. Provides relevant daily events and programming to meet the needs of the residents.


Qualifications Required
  • If the person holding this position leads the program they must meet qualifications as required by federal regulations
  • 483.15(f)(2) The activities program must be directed by a qualified professional who--
  • Has 2 years of experience in a social or recreational program within the last 5 years, 1 of which was full-time in a patient activities program in a health care setting; or
  • Acceptable driving record that meets Benedictine requirements
  • Is licensed or registered, if applicable, by the State in which practicing; and
  • Is a qualified therapeutic recreation specialist or an activities professional who--
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Is a qualified occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant; or
  • Valid Driver’s License as appropriate
  • Has completed a training course approved by the State.
  • Is eligible for certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist or as an activities professional by a recognized accrediting body on or after October 1, 1990; or


Qualifications Preferred


  • In good standing on the State Nursing Assistant Registry.
  • CPR certified.
  • Experience in long term care.
  • First Aid certification.
