Job Summary The welder is a skilled manufacturing position that is responsible for supporting the building and repair process of steel vessels for a variety of customers. The welder must follow the building instructions that comply with the regulatory specs to successfully support the build and repair of the vessel. Must be able to pass a SA/5V weld certification (see attachement). This position is primarily for our new construction projects, but may also be utilized in the field for repair business. Responsibilities Analyze engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, sketches, work orders, and material safety data sheets to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations. Clamp, hold, tack-weld, grind component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding. Using MIG or TIG weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions Produce consistent quality welds on steel using GMAW and GTAW processes with primary focus on GMAW. Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits. Operates a wide variety of handheld and power-assisted tools and production fixtures Ensures quality and accuracy of their work Reports issues to supervisor or to team lead Positions and secures parts, using hoist, crane, wire and banding machine, or hand tools. Selects, positions, and secures torch, cutting tips, or welding rod, according to type, thickness, area, and desired temperature of metal. Guides and directs flame or electrodes on or across work piece to straighten, bend, melt, or build up metal. Qualifications Applicants with prior experience preferred Weld Certificate or education from a technical school preferred. Candidates must be able to pass a qualification test prior to being considered for hire. Physical requirements Position requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, crawling, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity. Must be able to work in tight, confined spaces, such as accessing manholes, and awkward positions for long periods of time. Use of manufacturing equipment. Work in areas at times that are not environmentally controlled. Work in environment where harmful dusts, fogs, fumes, gases, etc. might be present and the use of a respirator may be required. Ability to work in inclement weather conditions/areas that at times are not environmentally controlled. Able to move/lift/pull/push 50 lbs. Ability to visit vessels in a variety of ports, which requires some travel, by i.e. air, bus, car, etc. Employees must be able to reach various work locations on their own. Applicants will have to pass an USCG/ABS weld assessment prior to moving to the second stage of the hiring process.
