Job Summary


The purpose of this position is to perform skilled maintenance, repair, fabrication, and modification to MnDOT machinery and equipment. Overtime and weekend work is possible.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years of experience as a combination welder/fabricator (arc and gas, wire feed, MIG, and plasma cutter) involving working from drawings/sketches, making jigs and fixtures, and fabrication including stainless steel and aluminum.

OR completion of a two-year vocational/technical Welding program.

  • Knowledge with the use of heavy equipment repair tools and rebuilding equipment.
  • Valid Class D Driver's License
  • Experience using electronic, computerized, and/or precision measuring instruments.
  • Experience keeping detailed and accurate records.
  • Ability to fabricate parts from drawings or sketches

Preferred Qualifications

  • Class A or B Commercial Driver's License

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to work in a set area with tool carts, sinks, hoists and supplies easily accessible (i.e., the mechanics shop). The employee frequently uses gross and fine dexterity in a variety of positions including reaching outward and overhead, bending, working with outstretched arms and/or while lying on the back (i.e., on a creeper), climbing up onto a large vehicle working from heights and bending over. The employee works with power tools, machinery/instruments and equipment, and hand tools requiring the frequent lifting and/or carrying/holding of supplies and parts up to 50 pounds. The employee will infrequently move between 50 and 70 pounds by pushing, pulling, or lifting and carrying. Working conditions include vision, noise, vibration, respiratory and chemical hazards and occasional adverse weather conditions (heat, cold, snow, rain, wind).

Additional Requirements

All job offers are contingent upon the candidate passing a Criminal Background Check, SEMA4 Records Check, Physical Exam, Employment Verification, Reference Checks and Driver’s License Screening at the required level for the position with NONE of the following: a major traffic conviction in the past 5 years OR 4 or more minor violations OR 3 or more at-fault accidents in the last 3 years OR any combination of minor violations and at-fault accidents totaling 4 or more occurrences.
