D & G Machine Products, Inc., a Certified ISO 9001 & AS9100D Company with a Main Plant located in Westbrook and a Fabrication Plant located in Gorham, Maine, has been offering full-service Precision Machining, Fabrication, Painted and Assembled Machine Products for more than 50 Years.

D&G Machine supply’s several Nationwide Industries that include: Aerospace, Computer Chip Production, Defense Contracts, Medical, Power Generation, and Maine’s Paper Industry.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Welder is responsible for welding and assembling metal fabrications. The Welder works from specifications, drawings, and weld symbols; prepares and completes work by welding, cutting, grinding, and sanding.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • None

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Prepares and completes work on materials by cutting, grinding, and sanding metal using power hand tools.
  • Maintains, organizes, and cleans equipment and the work area.
  • Monitors the welding, burning, and fitting process to ensure parts are not overheated or damaged by warping, distortion, expansion, or shrinkage.
  • Checks finished work to make sure it falls within the tolerances marked on the blueprints.
  • Welds products using handheld welding equipment that emits high heat, using the correct materials to join the metals together.
  • Tags all final products with identification.
  • Sets up parts for welding; uses hand tools including clamps, jigs and fixtures.
  • Notifies supervisor when faulty equipment or defective materials are discovered.
  • Operates overhead crane when needed.
  • Reads, fabricates, and welds from blueprints.
  • Welds components in flat, vertical and at different height positions when needed.
  • Monitors machinery for appropriate usage and temperature.
  • Follows and enforces strict safety regulations such as wearing heat-resistant gloves, protective masks, and safety shoes.

Requirements:

REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

  • One-year experience in various forms of welding.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have enough manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work.
  • Training and experience using GTAW, FCAW & GMAW welding.
  • Vocational, technical or trade school training a plus.
  • Thorough understanding of machines and tools used in welding.
  • Basic understanding of mathematics as related to welding assignments.
  • Must pass a post-employment offer drug screen and background check.
  • Successful completion of an internal welding test.
  • Ability to read weld symbols and follow blueprints.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in a manufacturing environment in the Fabrication Plant located in Gorham, Maine. This role routinely uses welding and standard production equipment such as power tools and other mechanic hand tools. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to remain stationary; handle or feel small components; communicate with coworkers and exchange accurate information about job/work. The employee is frequently required to position self to weld at various heights, move product to different levels and maintain equipment. The employee frequently detects and operates hand tools. The employee must frequently position and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and explosives. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Ear protection is strongly recommended.
