Job Description
Position Description

A Welder Foreman is responsible for overseeing daily work assignments and supervising of assigned crew in areas related to maintenance on county buildings and/or facilities including parks facilities. Maintaining and improving production standards, ensuring safety, and efficiency in manufacturing shop.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Investigates and prepares employee accident reports as required.
  • Inspects all aspects of job sites for safety, compliance and conforming to Precinct 2, Local, County, State and Federal specifications/requirements. Inspects and tests for other problems.
  • Investigates work orders submitted, determines resolution to resolve and complete work order and documents status of work orders.
  • Performs all jobs in a safe and timely manner and obeying all safety & policy regulations.
  • Plans projects and ensure manpower, materials and equipment needs are met.
  • Constructs new installations; adds to existing installations, and repairs existing installations.
  • May be required to drive personal or county vehicle to various work sites
  • Assists and trains less experienced co-workers
  • Investigates work orders, communicates with supervisor, documents, and determines a solution.
  • Develop and maintain efficient shop flow processes for material staging, machine operations, and material movement.
  • Interprets blueprints and building specifications to map layout for welding systems in accordance with building codes.
  • Inspects equipment to verify that no hazardous condition exists; Operates light and heavy construction equipment as assigned (e.g., bucket truck, forklift, front end loader, bob cat, backhoe, one man lift, multi-person lift, ditching machine, excavators, etc.)
  • Communicates to Superintendent, field staff, constituents, contractors, stakeholders, and other entities to ensure adherence to schedules, plans and specifications.
  • Work with the maintenance program to upkeep county equipment and machinery, maximizing operational efficiency.
  • Performs more advanced functions as part of training and development
  • Coordinates field staff training opportunities and development.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Prepares, schedules, documents, and oversees daily work assignments for field staff; troubleshooting and resolving issues to ensure completion of daily activities.
  • Collaborates with contractors and construction workers when installing and repairing structures.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of incidentals, gases, welding materials, yard materials, vehicles, and supplies.
  • Documents all work activities on Asset Management software and performs utility locates as required.

Requirements

Education:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited educational institution
Experience:
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the welding industry
Licensure:
  • Valid driver's license (Texas by hire date) and a good driving record
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must pass background check and drug test, as required
  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office suite and be able to learn Asset Management Software system
  • Must be proficient in multi-tasking to meet deadlines provided
  • This position is Safety Sensitive and will be subject to random drug and alcohol screening
  • Ability to work in a professional manner with all levels of management, staff and public
  • Must have strong leadership skills and the ability to apply expertise in steelwork effectively
  • Ability to document activities in both written and electronic format.

General Information

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:
  • This is a full-time position, requiring the employee to work 40 hours per week.
  • Hours may vary based on the business needs of the department and some weekend, evening hours or holidays may be required during special events.
  • Days and hours are typically Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Work Environment
  • Required to work outdoors on varied and often unstable terrain involving exposure to varying weather conditions of extreme hot and cold temperatures.
  • Some working conditions require special precautions and the use of protective gear (e.g. Hard hats, respirator masks, gloves, etc.) will work on ladders and occasionally on scaffolding
  • Work is on active construction sites and welding shop involving pervasive hazards associated with heavy equipment and tool operations speeding traffic, loud and constant noise and regular exposure to chemicals, dust, fumes, and combustible materials
Physical Demands
  • Work in cramped and awkward positions with all types of mechanical tools, electric, plumbing, and other equipment.
  • Duties require standing, sitting, stretching, bending, stooping, climbing.
  • This is a physically active position which requires exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
