SUMMARY
The Guest Services Cashier is responsible for providing fast, friendly service to our guests while following proper cash handling procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Utilizes computer in the preparation and use of daily cash worksheet and balancing at the end of each day.
- Ensures accuracy of transaction to visitor and communicates appreciation for their business.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Applies cash handling procedures, asset protection policies and requirements to daily routines. Accounts for any over or under at closings.
- Identifies and follows strict safety protocols for guests as well as staff.
- Cleans and organizes assigned areas. Identifies and follows all Zoo sanitation standards.
- Serves as a team player to help others complete their objectives as needed. May be required to work in another capacity in the guest services area as needed.
- Maintains customer service standards while meeting needs of guests.
- Communicates clearly and in a friendly manner.
- Given the opportunity, actively upsells daily admission into memberships.
- Completes tasks on all checklists associated with the cashier position.
- Greets all visitors with a smile and friendly manner, offers assistance and provides exemplary customer service to meet and exceed guest experience expectations.
SAFETY ANALYSIS
The Guest Services Cashier position is impacted by hazardous exposures common to retail operations as well as public safety in an outdoor environment. Some of the following exposures will occur daily:
- Thorough understanding of guest safety protocols, particularly with young children.
- The proper use and understanding of cleaning agents
Specific training and procedures will be provided, designed to maintain safety of people as the highest priority of the zoo followed by the safety of the animal collection.
The Guest Services Cashier is responsible to follow safety policies and procedures for their areas and to make any recommendations to the Guest Services Manager(s) as necessary. The use and understanding of a variety of personal safety equipment is mandatory.
The Guest Services Cashier, as with any staff member of the Zoo, is required to be familiar with the Zoos overall safety policies as outlined in the staff handbook as well as being responsible for reporting any injury immediately to their manager/supervisor, first aid department, Safety Manager, or Manager on Duty (MOD).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by staff to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, staff should expect:
- Depending on assignment, exposure to the elements can be expected.
- Use of hands, fingers, tools or controls.
- Exposure to wet surfaces.
- Routinely lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, bend, crawl, crouch and talk or hear.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education and work experience
- Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19
- High School Degree or GED.
- Retail experience helpful, customer service experience preferred.
- Ability to perform basic math and Familiar with proper cash handling protocols preferred.
Skills and knowledge
- Must have good presentation and public speaking skills.
- Must have ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality as well as exercise extreme discretion.
- Ability to multi-task and coordinate with others to provide deliverables on an agreed upon deadline.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills; high energy and enthusiasm for completion of tasks; team building skills; and the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to adhere to standard operating policies and procedures.
- Ability to think critically and demonstrated time-management skills.
- Strong organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to convey information clearly and concisely.
- Ability to perform basic math and understand basic accounting and cash handling required.
- Proficient in use of Microsoft Office, Windows-based software, and point of sale systems.
