Web Engineer - Music

Spotify is looking for a Web Engineer to join the Music Expression organization; the newly built team focused on empowering artists and fans to form deeper connections via new ways to express themselves and their music.

Music Expression is a highly collaborative team that enjoys tackling big challenges; our most recent successes have included enabling 40,000 artists to share a special message during Spotify Wrapped to over 300 million viewers. Specifically, the Music Formats team is focused on growing and enriching the music catalog by developing new sets of video formats.

You’ll join our team of talented engineers that share a common interest in distributed backend systems, their scalability, and continued development. You will build the backend systems that power our application, scale highly distributed systems, and continuously improve our engineering practices.

What You'll Do

• Be a valued member of an autonomous, cross-functional agile team to continuously experiment, iterate and deliver on new product objectives
• Facilitate collaboration with other engineers, product owners, and designers to solve interesting and challenging problems for delivering various media worldwide
• Be a technical leader within the team you work with and within Spotify in general
• Design, develop, document, and deploy tooling, APIs, and SDKs primarily using Javascript or Typescript
• Be a strong participant in the Spotify-wide web developer community affecting and driving web engineering across the company

Who You Are

• You are proficient in the following: JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and Styled Components
• You’re an experienced Javascript developer with at least 5+ years of experience, who has been involved in a number of large-scale, consumer-facing web projects
• You know and care about sound engineering practices like continuous delivery, defensive programming, and automated testing
• You are experienced in working with modern infrastructure and tools
• You’re familiar with designing and building distributed and scalable systems and enjoy seeing millions of users running your code
• You are interested in keeping up with current best practices in your areas of expertise
• You have a deep understanding of JS design patterns, data structures, and web architecture and understand how to apply them to design pragmatic solutions

The United States base range for this position is $100,706 - $175,308, plus equity. The benefits available for this position include health insurance, six months of paid parental leave, a 401(k) retirement plan, a monthly meal allowance, 23 paid days off, 13 paid flexible holidays, and paid sick leave. This range encompasses multiple levels. Leveling is determined during the interview process. Placement in a level depends on relevant work history and interview performance. These ranges may be modified in the future.
