Web Development Engineers in our team build branded custom advertising experiences on Amazon’s platforms. Paired with Design Technologists and Campaign Product Managers, the team works together to deliver bar-raising content to our customers, achieve the goals of our advertisers and identify opportunities to grow our business.

Key job responsibilities

You will be expected to read, write, and code-review modern HTML/CSS/JS, leverage common frameworks like React and contribute to our development infrastructure. You will build and test experiences that provide a consistent customer experience cross-browser and cross-device, delivering branded content across desktop, mobile, Fire tablet, Fire TV, and Alexa.

You will support the operation of our team by participating in regular stand-ups, participating in the team on-call rotation, documenting new processes, evolving old processes, immediately surfacing project concerns to the team and handling multiple projects simultaneously during a sprint.

A day in the life

As a Web Development Engineer (WDE) in our team, you will support the scoping and production web development (HTML/CSS/JS) of custom features and content for advertising campaigns on web, mobile and FireTV. Your partners are Designers, Design Technologists and Campaign Product Managers. Your customers are external advertisers and consumers that use our platforms and services. A typical day will involve a mix of team and project meetings as well as heads-down development time. We follow a 2-week sprint cycle.

About The Team

Emerging Products and Campaigns (EPC) team designs and builds products that fuel growth in the Brand Products & Solutions org and enable it to scale. We learn from advertising customers to bridge gaps in our existing ad-product portfolio, and partner with them to test new concepts with a view to developing the most valuable ones into scalable ad products. We also empower the wider org by designing & building products that reduce its total operational weight (TOW). Our primary objective is to accelerate Amazon’s flywheel by delivering initiatives that drive incremental ad revenue and/or lower TOW. We are based in Santa Monica, CA. Our partners and customers are global.

Basic Qualifications

• Availability of links to a portfolio, live projects or code repos for professional work where you owned a significant amount of the development.
• Experience using React or a comparable JS framework like Vue, Ember or Meteor to build responsive/adaptive, component-based UI.
• Experience using JS APIs to retrieve and parse XML/JSON data from a server.
• Understanding of client-side performance and how to mitigate latency issues.
• Ability and interest in participating in the full campaign development lifecycle -- including scoping of effort, parsing requirements, web development, code reviews, and testing across browsers and devices.
• Experience using JS libraries like ThreeJS and GreenSock to create and animate graphics within a 2D and 3D UI.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and analytical skills.
• 3+ years of professional experience building and supporting customer-facing UX across multiple devices, webviews, and browsers in a web tech stack (HTML, CSS, JS).

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $73,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $184,900/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
