Job Description

Water Resources Engineer - ( 2300021Q )

Description

Many of the world’s top engineers and scientists come together in our Water business because they view a community’s interaction with water a bit differently—as a single holistic system, rather than unconnected networks divided by jurisdictional boundaries. Working throughout the hydrologic cycle, we are delivering sustainable solutions to make sure water is where it should be and available when needed. Our experts guide our work with scientific rigor, an innovative spirit, and a vision for growth. Every day, we help communities improve, reuse, and protect this precious resource for future generations. By 2025 we’re hiring 2,000 people (like you) to join our team. Grow with us, H2O+U.

Your Opportunity

Stantec’s New York City office is seeking a technically focused Water Resources Engineer to support flood hazard and risk identification. The right candidate is well-rounded, takes initiative, is a team player, is willing to learn, wants a challenge and can be flexible.

The Stantec New York City office offers opportunities for rapid growth through client exposure and collaboration with a 200 person team that supports FEMA with its RiskMAP program. No two days are alike! This role allows individuals to obtain a range of knowledge across water resources engineering from dams and levees to coastal and riverine flood analyses to disaster response.

Your Key Responsibilities :

  • Perform statistical analyses in support of hydrologic and probabilistic modeling.
  • Minimal travel (2%) expected.
  • Perform advanced geospatial analyses using programs such as python, Jupyter Notebooks, and Databricks to support engineering and technical services.
  • Review and assess hydrologic, hydraulic analysis and documentation for riverine and coastal studies.
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses including using unsteady state and 2D models.
  • Participate in project meetings involving communication with Federal agencies.
  • Present solutions and deliverables to clients.
  • Review levee data and interior drainage analyses.
  • Lead the development of project teams and deliverables.
  • Support resilient design and building science initiatives.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Demonstrated work experience with statistics and analytics using programming software such as python and R.
  • Working knowledge of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and FEMA flood mapping and mitigation programs (RiskMAP).
  • Demonstrated work experience with two-dimensional hydrologic and hydraulic modeling in HEC-RAS.

Education and Experience :

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental Engineering, hydrology, or related field.
  • 5-10 years of engineering experience
  • Professional Engineering license or the short-term plan to obtain.
