Purpose of the Job

Operates sewage treatment, sludge processing, and disposal equipment in a wastewater (sewage) treatment plant to control the flow and processing of sewage by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Observes variations in operating conditions and interpret meter and gauge readings and test results to determine load requirements.
• Collects sewage samples and conducts laboratory tests.
• Starts and stops pumps, engines, and generators to control the flow of raw sewage through filtering, settling, aeration, and sludge digestion processes.
• Calculates and adjusts chemical feed rates and respectively measures and prepares chemicals.
• Other duties as may be assigned.
• Operates and maintains power-generating equipment to provide electricity for the plant.
• Maintains log of operations and records meter and gauge readings.
• Monitors control panels and adjusts valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate the flow of sewage
