Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator
Location: Sikeston, MO
Pay Rate $21.16 – Paid Bi-Weekly
Day Shift Position: 5:45 a.m. - 6:15 p.m. (12-Hour, 2/2/3 Schedule)

Background & Purpose of the Job
The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator works independently to operate and manage the wastewater process and facility.
All actions must contribute to the delivery of operational KPIs (Safety, Quality, Production, Environment, Cost, Delivery)
The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator must be agile and self-motivated with little oversite and a keen eye for details.
Who You Are & What You’ll Do
- Operate and maintain the wastewater treatment system
- Independently monitor system on daily basis, and adjust parameters, pumps, flows and chemicals accordingly
- Independently maintain and calibrate process and lab testing equipment
- Comply with Working at Height Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Perform Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) on equipment
- Complete daily, weekly, and monthly checklists on equipment.
- Maintain rigorous and accurate records
- Use Maintenance Part Inventory software, which controls and monitors mechanical equipment and utility systems.
- Follow all required safety procedures and work in a safe manner.
- Develop and follow established Automated Maintenance Management Systems (AMMS)
- Perform miscellaneous housekeeping and other duties as assigned. (ie painting, cleaning, etc.)
- Develop, train, and follow established Preventative Maintenance procedures
- Perform work as directed by supervisor and /or designated team leader
- Perform basic maintenance on wastewater equipment
- Troubleshoot issues and communicate with supervisors or maintenance when appropriate
- Optimize wastewater effluent flow as necessary to stay in compliance
- Understand process of treating wastewater and any equipment involved
- Attend to chemical or sludge haulers when they are loading/unloading
- Other duties as assigned
- Assist maintenance on larger tasks
Working Environment
Work is performed primarily at the Wastewater Treatment Plant, with some work throughout the facility. Potential hazards include proximity of moving machinery, chemical exposure, noise, heights, or heavy lifting. The position may require an individual to stand, stoop, move equipment, bend, reach, or lift for prolonged periods of time. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) includes safety glasses, hearing protection, sanitary/anti-slip safety toe footwear, fall restraints, and other PPE as required.
- Must be open to flexible working hours which includes days, weekends, and Holidays
- Must be open to working in unusual environments (ie strong smell, hot and cold, etc.)
What You’ll Need to Succeed
- High School Diploma
- Familiarity and/or ability to work with lubricants, solvents, brine solutions, and other chemicals with appropriate PPE
- Ability to work on ladders and platforms, and lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with minimal supervision
- Knowledge of PC basic functions and software such as Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Good mechanical skills
- Strong time management skills
- Familiarity with safe vehicle operation
