Job Description

Do you have waste management and transportation experience? We are looking for a Waste Management & Transportation Specialist II to join our team. The successful candidate will be able to provide hands-on implementation of the waste management and transportation programs for the DUF6 Project in compliance with U.S. Department of Energy and U.S. Department of Transportation policies, procedures and regulations. Prior government experience in waste management and transportation is a plus.

NOTE: Substance Abuse Program Plan position and subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

Position Overview:

  • Under limited supervision responsible for providing hands-on implementation of the waste management and transportation (WM&T) programs for the DUF6 project. The specific work assignment may include duties or activities to support the organization in one or more of the following functional areas, in addition to other duties as assigned:

Functional:

  • Analyzes and solves specialized problems with a narrow scope
  • Inspects and verifies that packages meet U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements for marking, labeling, and placarding
  • Provides assistance and training to waste generators
  • Conducts modified cylinder inspections to ensure packaging meets DOT regulations
  • Serves as the package certifier in support of the waste certification program in compliance with DOE O 435.1, Radioactive Waste Management and the waste acceptance criteria for a Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Facility
  • Performs waste management functions (i.e., radioactive and hazardous waste management, waste characterization, tracking, generation and minimization oversight, waste storage area compliance and inspections)
  • Coordinates with treatment, storage, and disposal facilities
  • Monitors and tracks sample data
  • Directs the loading and shipment of hydrofluoric acid (HF)
  • Determines equipment, material, and package needs for WM&T work activities and prepares purchase requisitions
  • Develops and implements WM&T programs
  • Conducts truck and rail shipments of waste and product and prepares transportation paperwork
  • Prepares characterization plans, site wide status and annual reports
Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD-12) credential
  • 5+ years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required
