Midwest Veterinary Supply is seeking a Warehouse Manager for our Birmingham, Alabama location.
- Maintain proper levels of necessary facility supplies including shipping materials, safety supplies, and other required housekeeping goods.
- Perform supervisory functions including recruitment, employee training, employee scheduling, performance evaluations, progressive discipline, and employee problem resolution. Work with Branch Manager on all hiring and termination decisions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Provide training of new staff and ongoing training of existing staff for their relevant work duties regarding policy and procedure updates or revisions.
- Ensure compliance of safety policies and procedures.
- Utilize records of employee errors to provide re-training and guidance in order to reduce error frequency.
- Work with Branch Manager and Human Resources department on employee matters to include payroll/timekeeping, hiring, disciplinary action, terminations, and employee benefits.
- Ensure facilities and MVS property (including forklifts, delivery vehicles, Coolers, Freezers, HVAC units, and other equipment) are being maintained on the proper schedules and remain in working order. Work with the Branch Manager on maintenance and repair costs.
- Ensure timely resolutions of outstanding warehouse tasks including order waves, replenishments, cycle counts, receipts, put-aways, and immediate needs.
- Answer questions related to products, policies, and procedures. Assist in the resolution of problems that may arise related to order processing and managing inventory control.
- Serve as a supervisor for the Pulling, Shipping, and Receiving departments. Provide the tools, directive, and motivation necessary for employees to perform at maximum efficiency, but also be available to perform any of the warehouse functions on an as needed basis (see descriptions of warehouse positions).
- Ability to perform general building maintenance
- Good listening and verbal communication skills to include the ability to demonstrate diplomacy and professionalism
- Ability to manage, delegate to, and lead employees to ensure ultimate performance levels
- Forklift certified or ability to become forklift certified required
- Must have a valid Driver’s License
- Ability to differentiate details related to product codes and descriptions (such as verifying a string of numbers)
- Basic computer skills, ability to operate a Windows-based computer and data entry
- Strong organizational skills
- The ability make quick decisions based on sound business logic
- A minimum of two years of experience as a supervisor within a distribution setting is preferred
- Ability to read, write and speak English
- A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required
- Ability to work with Corporate office to achieve mutual goals
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedural manuals
- Must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily
- Ability to work well with others and independently
- Ability to remain flexible and open minded
- A minimum of two years of experience within the veterinary industry is preferred
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percentages.
- Specialized warehouse management training of at least two years is preferred
- Frequent use of a telephone – listening and speaking
- Ability to work long hours as needs arise
- Regular interaction with people, team-player
- Frequent use of hands for writing and computer keyboard
- Ability to work at a desk throughout the day
- Attention to detail critical to ensure accuracy and completion of objectives
- Fast pace of work which requires multi-tasking and ability to work under pressure
- Bending, twisting, kneeling, crouching
- Ability to climb ladders/stairs, balance, stand/walk on concrete floor for extended periods
- Regularly lift/move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift/move up to 70 pounds, and occasionally lift/move up to 100 pounds
- Vision: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
