Primary Responsibilities:

  • Developing and maintaining solid relationships with key stakeholders, including clinical and business leaders, product development resources and other key stakeholders across both the Optum
  • Spearheads efforts to enhance data capture, sharing, packaging and reporting in support of the above
  • Leads and actively participates in new product/service development through all phases of identification, development, implementation, and ongoing performance
  • Works closely with other Optum Enterprise (e.g., OBH; OI; OC; OH) leaders to consistently mine opportunities for enhanced integration and collaboration to drive business-specific and enterprise value
  • Shares accountability for the achievement of short- and long-term business development and revenue targets
  • Development and maintenance of a well-differentiated, integrated business/PBM value propositions
  • Participates in client advisory sessions; innovation meetings and industry forums to listen, share and enhance promotion and visibility of Optum Rx PCS services
  • Actively supports PCS and PBM sales and marketing efforts by highlighting the value of our PCS clinical capabilities and offerings
  • Care Services businesses (HD, SP, Genoa, Infusion, Frontier, divvyDOSE, Client retail)
  • Participates in strategic planning activities for the organization as a whole
  • Drives more efficient leveraging of centralized Optum clinical assets (e.g., Clinical Products/Services; Technology and Analytics) for the benefit of all PCS businesses
  • Benchmarks and stays up-to-date on industry trends, competitive intel and best practices related to pharmacy care services
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvement and implementing changes to increase efficiency and effectiveness
  • Developing and implementing clinical strategies to improve integration of pharmacy care clinical services across the organization
  • Collaborates in the development of unique clinical offerings that improve quality, patient outcomes and reduce costs
  • Leads efforts to measure and report upon the impact of PCS clinical models on total cost of patient care
  • Oversees and manages a multidisciplinary team with responsibilities for clinical model development, clinical products/services and clinical/economic outcomes assessment across Optum Rx Pharmacy
  • Provides leadership and guidance to pharmacy staff, including pharmacists, technicians, and support staff
  • Enterprise and PBM client/prospect community
  • Partners with key PCS staff in portfolio expansion of Payer- and Pharma-focused non-dispensing revenue-generating solutions (e.g., data/analytics; clin research; clin programs)

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience working with the current and pending federal and state regulatory/legislative environment impacting pharmacy dispensing business and operations
  • Experience developing and delivering formal presentations to senior leaders and in large conference settings
  • Experience in complex project management and problem navigation and driving change across an organization
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with and comprehensive understanding of the current PBM/Pharmacy/Payer community and landscape
  • 10+ years of PBM and/or Pharmacy system leadership experience overseeing teams to deliver successful results within a highly matrixed environment, including organizational planning and team development
  • Travel up to 20%
  • Experience with product development from ideation through to production and ongoing monitoring and maintenance
  • 5+ years of clinical pharmacy product/service development and/or management
  • Experience with pharmacy dispensing operations and the current competitive landscape
  • Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related clinical or business field or equivalent experience


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Sound foundational understanding of clinical pharmacy research methodology and implementation models
  • Sales/marketing experience and expertise
  • P&L ownership experience
  • Licensed or certified healthcare provider (ie., RN or RPh)
  • Master’s degree in a healthcare related or business field

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
