Our client, a rapidly growing leader in the laboratory testing industry is seeking a VP FP&A to build a "best in class" FP&A function. The fundamental challenge of the role to bring together data from disparate systems to develop insightful analytics, translate into standard reports, and partner with business leaders to create actionable plans. The FP&A leader will be a patient people person with high EQ – able to connect with a range of partners with wide-ranging levels of familiarity with financial planning tools and techniques.
The primary objective is to become an outstanding business partner across the organization and with the private equity sponsor, develop and train colleagues on best-in-class FP&A and data analytic techniques, create a data repository, and utilize business intelligence tools to analyze and fully integrate businesses.
The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience in FP&A, a BS in Finance, MBA or equivalent work experience, and experience building "Best in Class" FP&A processes from scratch is a plus!
Additional details of the role:
Reporting directly to the CFO, this is an opportunity to lead the design and build-out of the FP&A function and make a significant impact at a best-in-class laboratory testing company. As the Director/VP of FP&A, you will provide financial leadership to drive results and ensure operational efficiency across the organization. Working closely with the senior leadership team, you'll partner to enhance and better integrate Finance with other functions in the business, including the development, presentation, and maintenance of the company's long-range financial model and financial management reporting. Your team will manage operating budgets, prepare materials and presentations for various audiences, and guide projects from the conceptual stages through the review process and implementation. You will actively participate in designing and integrating systems supporting FP&A and the company.
Position Responsibilities
- Lead process improvement projects and system implementations/enhancements, including business intelligence (BI) tool analytics.
- Lead and build a best-in-class FP&A function that can strategically think through setting up financial processes and tools for the future and create proactive working partnerships with budget owners to ensure smooth financial operations.
- Create and implement an integrated business planning process, including long-term strategic planning, forecasting, and annual budgeting.
- Drive Revenue growth via initiatives.
- Tie the company's objectives to a clear set of metrics that can be used to track progress, understand business drivers, create the metrics to understand them, and report on them in a high-impact way.
- Address ad hoc financial requests when they help the business tackle complex financial questions and support the CFO in work with the private equity firm.
- Integrate data reporting with a common data warehouse to feed dashboards and reports.
- Partner with business teams to create dashboards, tools, and insights aligning with each team's needs and financial outcomes.
- Focus on the business's commercial side, creating KPIs and driving strategic initiatives in partnership with our Sales and Marketing organization.
- Create weekly and monthly reporting to identify variances to forecast, budget, and historical expenses, provided in a clear and action-oriented format to drive decisions.
Professional Experience/Qualifications
- A team player with the self-confidence, presence, and consultative skills to positively influence the business.
- A hands-on, detail-oriented professional with excellent analytical skills.
- Prior experience implementing and integrating analytical tools and data solutions utilizing Tableau, BI, or other packages.
- A proven leader who can effectively manage and develop an FP&A team.
- An excellent communicator and presenter with an ability to influence all levels, including senior-level executives, with strong interpersonal skills. Additionally, an incredible problem-solver, especially within a highly innovative environment.
- A finance expert with at least ten years of experience in FP&A (or similar experience).
- Private equity experience is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree required and MBA a plus.
- A leader with a track record of success delivering high-quality work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- An orientation toward change management and process improvement initiatives.
- Skilled in financial analysis, detail-oriented, and proficient in building and using complicated data sources, financial modeling, data analytics, and multi-year projections.
- High proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Office suite required.
