Job Description

TITLE: Video Editor LOCATION: Los Angeles, CA

REPORTS TO: Director of Production STATUS: Full-time team member

OVERVIEW OF ABBSON:

For the last eight years, we have been transforming content production and content marketing using innovative digital and creative strategies. Abbson also owns and operates numerous high-traffic podcasts, online shows, and other digital properties.

OVERVIEW OF POSITION

Abbson a seeks a creative, detail-oriented and growth minded professional to become a part of our expanding Production team. Reporting to the Director of Production, the Video Editor will be an integral part of creating and editing entertaining, informative, and engaging content for social media, podcasts, films, TV, radio and other formats. The Video Editor will be responsible for bringing video content to completion, delivering products on time, and meeting client expectations. As the central point in the post-production workflow on each project, the Video Editor will be responsible for communicating closely with the other spokes on the post-production wheel, including colorists, sound mixers, illustrators, and animators.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Balance competing priorities of multiple projects, deadlines and stakeholders at once.
  • Ingest, transcode, sync, line up, and prepare projects for editing
  • Create versions of videos, as required, which are optimized for various social media platforms by working closely with the marketing team on platform requirements
  • Organize multimedia elements needed to edit a video project
  • Take direction and implement feedback from Abbson and clients with appropriate urgency
  • Pull and cut clips for playback on podcasts and other video projects
  • Organize, edit, revise and render videos for use on social platforms, full-length episodes of podcasts and other episodic web series, films, short films, docuseries, and other long-form content, television and radio commercials, online advertisements, advertising content and forms of visual media
  • The ability to elevate the comedic or dramatic tone of a video through pacing, SFX, music and all other creative editorial techniques
  • Assist with the recruitment of contractors for various post-production needs
  • Attend all company meetings as required and track work performed via daily time logs
  • Implement the video captioning process by preparing, editing, and integrating video captions in close collaboration with the Marketing team
  • Manage Abbson’s video files on a project-by-project basis and organize, update, and sort client footage to ensure an efficient workflow and complete data integrity
  • Integrate in-stream or in-video assets as required for live events
  • Keep track of project footage, exports, and versions in database to ensure ease of access
  • Collaborate and communicate with other team members and contractors associated with each project, including editors, colorists, sound mixers and illustrators
  • When editing is finished, oversee and perform the various tasks necessary to move videos into their final forms and variations
  • Prepare footage to be sent out to sound and color editors
  • Quality control post-production projects to ensure Abbson and client standards are met
  • Handle administrative tasks as assigned
  • Properly understand the team and other editors’ needs and deliver on them
  • Ensure that all media files, project files, plugins, fonts, and any other associated project files are stored in Abbson’s file management systems at all times in order to ensure seamless handoffs throughout the production team
  • The proven ability to skillfully edit sizzle reels, trailers and multicam
  • Perform graphic edits as required to implement or update lower thirds, start or end cards, bugs, branding screens and other on-screen graphic content
  • Assist with Frame.io organization
  • Lead a team of assistant editors including assigning tasks, providing feedback, and ensuring deadlines are met
  • Other tasks as assigned
  • Adapt to changing technology and stay-up-to-date with the latest technology and trends

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong visual acumen, storytelling abilities and editorial instincts
  • Basic motion graphic skills, color correction skills and creative color-grading instincts
  • Basic audio post-production skills, including dialogue editing, sound mixing, repair and sweetening
  • A general knowledge of how video advertising works on popular social media platforms
  • Accomplished in Adobe Premiere and knowledgeable in Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Familiarity with Da Vinci Resolve and Avid Pro Tools (preferred)
  • Familiarity with the entire post production process from ingest and media management to versioning, deliverables and publishing
  • Proficient with personal; computer operations, Microsoft Office and G Suite
  • Five (5) or more years of video/audio mixing and recording or post-production experience
  • Demonstrated ability to “see the story” and anticipate viral moments that are going to matter to the audience and audience interests
  • Technical expertise in file management software and techniques
  • Basic knowledge of social media trends and best practices
  • Highly specialized knowledge of as broad range of professional video hardware and software
