Oversee management of all areas of Engineering and Quality for both Crane Systems (DeSHAZO) and Components (IMS), by implementing processes and directing activities that ensure products and projects are completed on-schedule and that meet design standards, quality standards, and cost objectives.The job responsibilities are focused on strategic planning, efficiency improvements, cost reductions, process improvements, and other high-level objectives.This job should not focus on day-to-day production support and problem solving, except for instances where the individual’s unique skills and talents may be required.Delegation will be a large part of this position.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities·Assist in the development and formulation of long and short-range planning, company policies, improvement programs, and both individual and department objectives.
·Develop engineering plans and establish procedures for maintaining high standards of product design to ensure that designs conform to established customer, industry, and company standards.
·Develop quality control plans and establish procedures for maintaining high standards of product quality that conforms to established customer, industry, and company standards.
·Establish and enforce quality control processes, procedures, and documentation, including inspection and testing protocols, to ensure product integrity.
·Analyze data, conduct trend analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions to improve product performance and reliability.
·Prepare regular reports on product quality, performance, and compliance for management review.
·Achieve optimum employee levels with appropriate amounts of overhead and expenditures to meet an annual budgetary plan.
·Hire, train, develop and evaluate staff. Take corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy.
·Ensure compliance with current federal, state and local regulations, consulting with the Human Resources Department as appropriate.
·Formulate and recommend policies and programs that guide the organization in maintaining and improving its competitive position and in achieving profitability objectives.
·Direct and monitor department managers to accomplish established goals, consistent with established engineering, quality, and safety procedures.
·Identify, recommend and implement changes to improve productivity and reduce costs associated with design and quality control.
·Provide technical leadership to the engineering and quality control organizations to improve competence, efficiency, and accuracy.
·Work effectively and relate well with others. Exhibit a professional manner in dealing with others, working to maintain constructive working relationships.
·Act as a company representative to vendors and customers as needed, providing timely and appropriate support.
·Keep current on information and technology affecting functional areas to increase innovation and ensure compliance.
·Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required.
Qualifications·A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, or structural engineering is required.
·MBA or advanced business degree with emphasis in manufacturing operations a plus.
·At least ten years’ experience in the engineering of overhead cranes, hoists, and end trucks required, preferably in the heavy industrial crane sector.
·Experience in gear design and manufacturing processes a plus.
·Must possess an understanding of quality control standards and methodologies.
·Must possess a detailed understanding of AWS D14.1 or D1.1 as well as CMAA 70.
·Must have experience with process improvements utilizing lean business system techniques.A Six Sigma green or black belt certification is preferred.
·Must have experience managing a large, diverse group of personnel that includes engineering and quality control.
·Must be able to ensure products comply with project specifications and company standards.
·Experience with 3D cad software required.SolidWorks and/or Inventor experience preferred.
·Must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
·Must be goal oriented and very organized.
·Must possess a strong leadership skill-set with the ability to work effectively and relate well to others.
·Must possess good communication and time management skills.
·Exhibit a professional manner in dealing with others, working to maintain constructive working relationships.
·Capable of working full-time, on-site.
·Willing to travel to remote facilities to provide over-site and direction.
·Must be physically able to work in a manufacturing environment where walking, climbing, bending, and lifting may be involved.
·Must be able to sit at a desk and work on a computer for extended periods of time.
