Utility Engineer Jobs

FACILITY OPERATIONS-IUB (BL-PHYP-IUBLA)

• Develops and manages the project list for the Utilities Division, prepares preliminary costs estimates, coordinates with engineering consultants, and prepares summaries of project status.
• Participates in the development and maintenance of utility systems design guidelines.
• Provides technical analysis of utility data generated by metering and control systems.
• Investigates existing documentation and field conditions to determine input into the design and construction process for utility infrastructure projects.
• Provides engineering support for capital planning, utilities, and facilities teams; Assists maintenance crews with technical information, research, and design and implementation of small projects.
• Reviews and recommends actions to maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Resolves safety or operating issues on utility systems.
• Reviews designs, work drawings, estimates, and specifications related to the utility infrastructure aspects of large capital project construction.

EDUCATION

Required

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, construction, or utility

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

• 2 years of maintenance/operations/design experience related to utilities

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Required

• Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University upon date of hire

SKILLS

Required

• Familiarity and knowledge of utility distribution systems, including steam distribution
• Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner
• Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize maintenance and construction projects
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints
• Advanced knowledge of computers and computer software

This role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. This role frequently requires the ability to handle equipment. This role frequently requires the ability to remain stationary and ascend/descend ladders/stairs. This role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The role requires the ability to detect items in close proximity as well as far away; discern between colors; detect objects in peripheral space of self; discern items in detail; and to have good depth perception. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
