Ultrasound Technologist - Part time, Sat/Sun, 7a-11p

Under general supervision, this position performs a variety of diagnostic ultrasound procedures to obtain and record interpretable diagnostic information for the medical staff.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
:

  • Teaches residents, students, medical staff and visitors the science, capabilities, and proper use of ultrasound as a diagnostic tool.
  • Develops and copies films, strip chart recordings and video cassettes.
  • Responsible for rotational on-call emergency coverage.
  • Maintains sterilization of equipment using appropriate cleaning procedures involved with specialized equipment.
  • Checks and maintains supplies.
  • Provides portable service to intensive care units and/or incapacitated patients on all regular floors.
  • Performs ultrasound examinations in all modalities (B-scan, Doppler, M-mode, real time) as well as all types of procedures (small parts, abdominal, obstetrical, neurological, etc.)
  • Provides quality assurance on all ultrasonic equipment and instrumentation.
  • Operating Room procedures.
  • Develops and maintains a filing system for patient records and teaching purposes.
  • Maintains collaborative, team relationships with peers and colleagues in order to effectively contribute to the working groups achievement of goals, and to help foster a positive work environment
  • Schedules and receives patients for exams.
  • Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.
  • Obtains all clinical information available through charts, films, lab tests, etc. prior to exams. Informs clinics, physicians and floors of interpretation for exams and provides results on request.

Qualifications

JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Ability to concentrate for long periods of time under various conditions while acquiring diagnostic information.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area.
  • Ability to perform exams in Doppler, M-mode, B-scan and real time modalities.


EDUCATION:

  • Level of knowledge generally obtained through successful completion of a two year Medical Technologist Program and one and a half year Ultrasound program at an approved institution.


EXPERIENCE:

  • One year clinical experience in medical ultrasonography.

An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.


LICENSES, ETC. :

  • Must be registered in OB, GYN, abdominal, small parts, and ultrasound physics.

Possesses and applies the skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process. This includes:

  • Provide age specific communication
  • Knowledge of growth and development
  • Ability to interpret age specific data and response to care


WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Exposure to patients injected with radioisotopes.
  • Ability to stand or sit in one position for long periods of time with some moving of heavy equipment and patients.
  • Frequent contacts with patients, physicians, patients’ families, and other personnel throughout the hospital.
  • Close contact with patients having contagious diseases.
  • Works in sterile fields when performing biopsies, amniocentesis, cyst punctures, abscess drains, and other aspiration procedures.
  • Position requires moving heavy equipment and patients.
