Job Summary And Qualifications

Seeking an Ultrasound Tech (sonographer) who performs diagnostic procedures utilizing a background in anatomy, physiology, physics and instrumentation to provide technical information to aid the physician. The sonographer will maintain technical skills needed to perform ultrasound procedures to include abdominal, OB/GYN, venous Doppler, small parts, pediatrics (where applicable) and invasive exams. In addition, the sonographer will maintain department supplies and equipment and will participate in the quality control of the ultrasound department.

What You Will Do In This Role

• Maintains skills and understanding of innovation in techniques and equipment in medical sonography.
• Understands and follows infection control/universal precautions in the performance of all job tasks. Maintains order and cleanliness. Always practices sterile techniques and prevents cross contamination.
• Assists physicians in performing ultrasound-guided biopsies and other invasive procedures.
• Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
• Follows safety policies and procedures applicable to the job, recognizes impending crisis situations and institutes measures (such as adjusting priorities) to prevent further complications.
• Responsible for the proper use of the Radiology Computer System (scheduling exams, patient tracking, film tracking, proper completion of exams, capture charges).

What Qualifications You Will Need

Minimum Education, Experience, Training, Required Knowledge, Skill, Abilities and Other Job-Related Characteristics:

• New Hires as of October 1, 2011:
• Successful completion of training program in either:
• Associates of Science or higher degree 2. Current employees:
• Successful completion of training program in either:
• Associates degree or higher degree
• Education: ONE of the following:
• Preferred:
• Vascular Technology
• Medical Assisting
• Experience: none required
• Vascular Technology
• Employee completes initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by service line, facility and department/unit which are specific to the needs of the patient population served (if applicable).
• Radiologic Technology
• Ultrasonography
• Radiologic Technology
• Ultrasonography

Two (2) years experience as a fulltime ultrasound technologist in a hospital or diagnostic imaging clinic setting preferred.

• Minimum License, Certificates, or Registrations Required:

Must have and maintain ONE of the following within the timeframes below:

• American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)
• RDMS- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer

ii. RDCS- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer

iii. RVT- Registered Vascular Technologist

• Cardiovascular Credentialing International (RVS)
• American Registry of Radiologic Technologist ARRT (S)
• American Registry of Radiologic Technologist ARRT (VS)

New Hires with experience: Must have within 6 months of hire date.

New Hires and New Grads- (graduated in the last 12 months): Must have within one (1) year of hire date.

Current employees of Methodist Hospital: Must obtain registry/certification by July 1, 2012.

Current employees of Methodist Specialty & Transplant, Metropolitan Methodist, Northeast Methodist, Methodist Texsan, Methodist Stone Oak or

Methodist Ambulatory Surgery Hospitals : Must obtain registry by October 1, 2012.
