Job Description
General Summary Of Position


Under the direction and supervision of the Supervisor, Manager or Director of M.I. the Hospital Assistant is responsible to assist technologist in transportation, procedure and image processing as needed.


Primary Duties And Responsibilities


  • Assist clinical personnel in transferring patients to and from beds, wheelchairs or stretcher as requested. Notifies RN of changes in patient's condition during transfer.
  • Department/Unit Specific Functions and Duties - Scans films and documents into PACS. Access RIS, PACS, HIS computer systems. Assist as M.I. Front desk. Consistently displays professionalism in interactions with patients and families, staff and physicians. Supports unit by providing coverage when there are shortages.
  • Ensure patient is properly identified before transporting. Adjusts bed and side rails, ensuring patient has access to bed controls and personal items once patient is back in bed. Reassures patient to obtain cooperation in a calming and professional manner. Approach, greet and offer assistance and direction to patients, family members, physicians and others who may need help in finding their way.
  • Patient Support: Transports patients to and from Medical Imaging who require transportation either by wheelchair or stretcher. Assists with patients. Assist clinical personnel in transferring patients to and from beds, wheelchairs or stretcher as requested. Notifies Lead Tech of changes in patient's condition during transfer.
  • Attends hospital sponsored training programs as required by the department. Completes all mandatory requirements, certifications, and licensure within allotted timeframe for completion (CPR, License, PPD, Competencies, Age Specifics, etc.)
  • Technical: Supports work of the department by maintaining all x-ray files. Assists in maintaining departmental supplies, checks inventory supplies. Transports patients to and from Medical Imaging who require transportation either by wheelchair or stretcher. Assists with patients.
  • Collect specimens, orders, requisitions and equipment and deliver items to appropriate destinations. Provides errand assistance in codes or as directed.
  • Provides department/unit with information and knowledge acquired during participation with interdepartmental teams and committees. Demonstrates a constructive approach during all interactions with staff, supervisors, and managers both inside and outside the unit.
  • Moves beds within units and between units as needed. Assist nursing staff with removal of expired bodies from units and transport to morgue.
  • Development: Maintains current knowledge and develops new knowledge. When learning needs are identified, participates in training and development activities.
  • Organizational knowledge: Works effectively within and between departments. Participates on inter-departmental teams and committees, communicating unit knowledge as appropriate.


Minimum Qualifications


Education


  • High School Diploma or GED required or
  • Medical Career Intern currently in High School required and
  • Minimum 18 years of age or Medical Career Intern with Work Permit required
  • Equivalent required and


Experience


  • Less than 1 year Previous experience with customer service preferred
  • Less than 1 year Experience in healthcare setting preferred


Licenses and Certifications


  • CPR required


Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities


  • HIPAA policies on Confidentiality
  • Basic Computer skills to perform Data entry
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English.
