This position is responsible for managing the transportation operation by directing the transportation planning, scheduling, and tendering function, the system support functions, the analysis and reporting function, pallet management function, projects management function, carrier rate and service management function, claims management function, and the freight audit function.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategies and processes to incorporate freight management resulting from acquisition.
  • Directs software implementation for various Networks Transport and Networks Carrier applications, process engineering activities, and other activities to meet the tactical and strategic needs of the Transportation department and the organization.
  • Directs the activities of the transportation operation by planning and defining business objectives that are in alignment with corporate goals and objectives, organizes resources for maximum productivity, provides leadership for internal and external stakeholders, and ensures compliance to plans, goals, and other measures of accountability.
  • Develops and manages the various department annual budgets, costs and expenses, and system flows.
  • Responsible for the allocation of personnel and other resources.
  • Provides leadership, coaching, training, mentoring, and professional development for direct reports; makes hiring, termination and discipline decisions; engages in team-building activities as well as providing conflict resolution.
  • Responsible to ensure skills, knowledge and abilities are commensurate with the needs of each position in transportation.
  • Responsible to conduct yourself and ensure your subordinates (if applicable) conduct themselves in a manner consistent with company mission, values, code of ethics, policies, and other standards of conduct.
  • Directs, trains and develops subordinates, if applicable
  • Directs activities for the freight planning, scheduling, and tendering; freight rate and service negotiation; carrier management and evaluation; freight auditing; freight coding processes; freight payment; information analysis, measurement and dissemination; and special projects including process design and development to ensure the best cost transportation services.
  • Directs activities for pallet management and claims management.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent.


Years of Related Experience: Five to seven years related experience and/or training.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Must have the ability to understand and create budgets, position requires intermediate financial analysis skills. Must be able to supervise staff, include policy administration, performance appraisals, discipline, and supervisory employment and bidding selections.
  • Have a basic understanding of SAP, ORACLE and/or relational databases.
  • Must be able to lead and facilitate projects and analyze software systems and data as well as business processes.
  • Have an understanding of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)structure, functionality, business, processes as well as related interfaces and data exchanges as they correlate to supply chain.
  • The ability to demonstrate an understanding of project management processes and supply chain principles. Demonstrate managerial experience and professional leadership skills.
  • Must posses strong written and oral communication skills as well as strong presentation skills. Must be analytical with strong complex problem-solving skills demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Must have complete understanding of Manugistics Transportation-related modules' functionality, settings, and structure.
  • Have knowledge of typical data structures, network and system relationships, data transfers, entity relationships, and client/server relationships and structures.
  • Must exhibit high levels of organization skills such as; the ability to work independently and under stressful situations, the ability to adapt to the changing needs of the organization.
  • Have Knowledge/skills in Microsoft Project, Windows, Access, Excel, Word, Visio, and have a working knowledge of SQL programming language.
