Job Description
Overview:
Atlantic Health System is seeking a full-time Transcriptionist for the Atlantic Medical Group Orthopedic Oncology in Morristown NJ. This is an on-site position, no remote opportunity.
Responsibilities:
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
  • Patient education and the explanations of risks and benefits
  • This may include researching contact information for referring physicians, coordinate referrals, prepare operative reports to be mailed, make phone calls or other clerical tasks as assigned
  • Involved in other administrative and clerical tasks related to office visits and overall operations of the office
  • Results of radiological studies
  • Plan of care, prescriptions and instructions for patient or family members for self-care and follow up
  • Assist with management of radiological studies, maintaining library of all studies and downloading them to computer systems for viewing
  • Some of this information may be gathered and populated into the patient’s medical record prior to an office visit or as part of a virtual visit
  • Ensure that all clinical data, lab or other test results, the interpretation of the results by the physician are recorded accurately in the medical record
  • Alert physician when chart is incomplete
  • Prepare referral letters as directed by the physician, via dictation or summary of the medical records
  • Patient medical history and physical exam
  • Identify mistakes or inconsistencies in medical documentation and check the information for accuracy in order to reduce errors
  • Physician/practitioners diagnoses
  • Differential diagnoses
  • Pathology reports and other pertinent laboratory study results
  • Procedures and treatments performed by healthcare professionals including nurses and physician assistants
  • All addendums must be signed off by the physician
  • Ensure letters are mailed or faxed on a daily basis to all physicians involved in a patient’s care, and with all copies of pertinent reports or tests attached
  • Comply with specific standards that apply to the style of medical records and to the legal and ethical requirements for preparing medical documents for keeping patient information confidential
  • May participate in administrative aspects of research and education that the specific practice and patients are involved
Qualifications:
Minimum Education:
  • High School Diploma required
Minimum Experience:
  • (EPIC) EMR experience helpful
  • Medical terminology strongly preferred (Orthopedics a plus) or a strong desire and willingness to rapidly learn medical terminology and further ones career in clinical healthcare
  • Computer literacy essential
