PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Salary to be commensurate with experience.
The hiring range for this position is $41,334.00 - $51,667.00 Annually
The salary range for this position is $41,334.00 - $64,584.00 Annually

Signing Bonus: New employees are eligible for a $5,000 bonus; with $2,500 paid on the first payroll, and $2,500 paid upon completion of six (6) month introductory period from hire date.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Traffic Signal Utility Locator's responsibility is to respond to Colorado 811 locate requests for the divisions of Traffic Engineering Operations. Individuals must be able to work independently, have computer skills to close out locate requests, and knowledge of utilities that are found at Traffic Signals.
  • Creates charts and drawings displaying various utility lines using GIS and other computer software
  • Conducts field meetings with contractors or customers and other representatives from outside agencies and coordinates the location of utility lines
  • Performs additional duties as assigned
  • Locates a combination power and output feeds/cables for traffic signals
  • Maintains and updates records; reads and interprets maps and construction drawings to mark utility lines within accuracy requirements of State laws
  • Communicates verbally and in writing with customers and contractors

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS
Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED

Experience:
  • Experience with Pelican Software is preferred
  • At least three (3) years of related maintenance experience including reading and interpretation of construction drawings
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Knowledge
  • Knowledge of confined space entry procedures
  • Practice and techniques of assigned maintenance functions
  • Knowledge of various types of utility lines
  • Knowledge of GIS

Skills:
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office, and competent in most common computer tasks
  • Basic drafting/drawing skills
Essential Personnel:
  • When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel
Abilities:
  • Understand oral and written instructions
  • Ability to work overtime
  • Read and interpret construction plans and mapping systems
  • Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time
  • Measure, locate, and mark underground utility locations based on plan information and records
  • Ability to work on the weekends
  • Communicate location information and resolve conflicts with field construction personnel

Licenses, Certificates, or Equipment Required:
  • Valid Driver License with a good driving history

This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. cell phone, etc.) in the course of their employment.
Physical Demands:
  • Vision to read manuals and use computers, record data, and monitor/observe instruments and gauges
  • Speech communication to give instructions and provide technical direction
  • Frequently lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance
  • Frequent pushing, pulling, and climbing
  • Hearing/listening for instructions and warning signals
  • Medium work lifting no more than 50 pounds (with or without assistance) at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects
  • Considerable walking and standing
  • Considerable hand/eye and hand/foot coordination for operation of equipment and vehicles
Work Environment:
  • Some work performed in confined space
  • Works both indoors and outdoors with exposure to all weather conditions, noise, fumes, and chemicals; work may be performed in a confined space
Equipment Used:
  • Frequently uses standard office equipment including computer, calculator, multi-line telephones, and copy/fax machines
  • Use of tablets in the field to complete locate requests
  • Use of locator equipment to complete locate requests
