ABS/CMBS Trader
Orinda, CA (hybrid)
About the Role
The ABS/CMBS trader will work with the portfolio managers in identifying good relative value opportunities and will be the primary trader of ABS and CMBS risk across the portfolios.
About the Team
Disciplined Alpha is a 16-member investment team based in Orinda, CA that manages over $16 bn in fixed income assets for institutional clients. The team invests using a dynamic process of continually evaluating relative value based on changing fundamentals and market technicals all within a framework of robust risk management. The DA team manages eight different fixed income strategies. Core Disciplined Alpha is the flagship product with over $10 bn in assets and a 12-year track record. We anticipate the Disciplined Alpha product platform will continue to grow over the next decade to an ultimate capacity of over $30 bn.
Job Responsibilities
- As part of the Disciplined Alpha team, help actively manage client assets and accounts including strategy evolution, analysis and security selection with the goal of achieving investment performance that consistently exceeds benchmarks
- Contribute to investment team meetings
- Conduct research supporting Disciplined Alpha strategies
- Primary ABS/CMBS trader for the Disciplined Alpha team
- Work closely with Loomis Sayles Mortgage & Structured Finance research team
- Support relative value investment process
- Develop and maintain relationships with securities dealers
- Communicate investment strategy and positioning to clients and consultants
Qualifications
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- CFA is preferred
- Learning agility and curiosity
- Several years of trading experience in CMBS and/or ABS
- Knowledge of structured finance and fixed income markets
- Familiarity with software programs and analytics used in CMBS as well as comfort in learning and using new proprietary programs and models
- Sell side trading experience is highly valued
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to negotiate effectively
- Understand the regulatory framework for trading and client guidelines
- Bachelor’s degree
The DA team follows a hybrid work schedule with 3 set days WFO and 2 set days WFH.
