Job Description
What to Expect

Thermal Engineering is the team behind the Tesla Heat Pump, Supermanifold, Octovalve, Superbottle, Airwave, Bioweapon Defense Mode and more. Our multi-disciplinary team of mechanical, manufacturing, electrical, aerodynamics, thermal, and analytics engineers works together across all phases of development from idea inception, through prototyping, production, and fleet support.


Thermal R&D is responsible for system level thermal architecture (including radiators, refrigerant heat exchangers, compressors, fans, pumps, etc.) supporting the cabin, battery, and powertrain across all Tesla vehicles. We are seeking technically qualified and highly motivated engineers in the field of Thermal Engineering as applied to automotive Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration. Qualified individual will collaborate with a cross-functional team of engineers to deliver innovative, best in class thermal components and systems with optimum efficiency, performance, reliability, and safety.

What You’ll Do
  • Success in this role will help us drive forward vehicle efficiency, performance, supercharge capability, occupant comfort, and NVH
  • Analysis –thermal model development for hardware optimization, controls, and diagnostics
  • Testing – instrumentation, data acquisition, and processing of vehicle HVAC, coolant, refrigerant and other thermal systems
What You’ll Bring
  • Excellent first principles understanding of heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and thermodynamics with relevant experience
  • Experience in developing numerical models and experimental characterization of thermal/fluid systems and heat exchangers
