Director, Apparel Merchandising


What You Will Do


As Apparel Merchandising Director, you will collaborate cross functionally with global merchandising teams to consolidate an aligned seasonal regional range plan. Informed by consumer and marketplace insights, you will drive segmentation and distribution plans. You will communicate needs with global product management. You will own strategic franchise management plans and product lifecycles of said plans. Curate product assortments to drive full-price sales. Author TNF seasonal brand roadmap with global product and marketing teams. Thorough understanding of the product assortment to the P& L. Drive specific KPI’s to achieve targets (style count, productivity, regional adoption %, etc). You will lead a team of direct reports and cultivate high performing talent. You will ensure teams are clear on objectives and collaborate to ensure success. You will provide coaching and help others to achieve their best while motivating others to higher levels of achievement. You will influence others through persuasion, deliver relevant information with confidence, and built a strong network of relationships to deliver results. This role will be asked to lead with a first to market mindset and a passion for innovation, and the Apparel Merchandising Director will be relied on to ensure the value proposition of TNF Apparel Product Assortments is being upheld while maintaining brand DNA.

  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement promoting professional growth and development of the team.
  • Ensure you and your team remain current with competitor product offerings, the global marketplace and consumer trends.
  • Manage short, mid and long-term projects while providing regular updates to key stakeholders.
  • Drive Segmentation at Consumer, Category, Channel and Tier level to create necessary distinction for sustainable growth.
  • Participate in the cross functional Go-To-Market work stream, ensuring seasonal vision is brought to life in store and online.
  • Develop high performing talent in direct reports.
  • Lead and Deliver on a Product Merchandising strategy for Apparel Categories that drives growth and revenue in Direct to Consumer, Across Channel and within Accounts while also growing the shared global assortment between all regions.
  • Develops management and leadership capabilities in others.
  • Build regional assortment plans in partnership w/ regional Planning.
  • Inspire confidence across the brand, demonstrating expertise, consumer, and market.
  • Driving key initiatives to support the franchise management and 3-year planning.
  • Ensure clarity of written line plans and briefs reflect marketplace opportunities balanced with brand right business decisions.
  • Apply in-depth knowledge of consumer, marketplace, product, and competitor insights to provide long term vision and framework to seasonal line plans.
  • Gather market research and interpret opportunities (competitive analysis/comps shops) to align on seasonal opportunities.
  • Provide strategic direction, leadership, mentorship, and inspiration to a diverse team of product managers to deliver industry leading solutions.
  • Reconcile assortment and line plans with regional merchandising financial plans at key milestones to ensure alignment.
  • Participate in business planning, targeting, and seasonal planning.
  • Champions a work environment that supports teamwork, inclusion, and respect.


What You Will Bring:


  • 10+ years of experience in apparel as a business leader with major business driving functions including product management, merchandising, or product development
  • You have a strong instinct and passion for product, blending art and science with a consumer centric approach to decision making
  • Passion for your work equal to your passion for getting outside and living it.
  • Experience in retail sales analysis and interpretation of data to identify opportunities.

  • Experience product forecasting, statistical modeling and/or strategic planning
  • Proactive approach to identifying the root cause of issues, seeking the best solutions with a value driven commitment to do what is right.
  • Strategic w/ proven ability to grow a category and bring big ideas to market.
  • Able to make tough decisions and take calculated risks while holding others accountable for making sound decisions.
  • Understanding of sales, product design, development, and manufacturing process
  • Strong business acumen and understanding of financial metrics and profitability analysis.
  • Growth mindset and enthusiasm for learning new tools and problem-solving.
  • Excellent collaboration skills, including a proven ability to communicate with various levels of management and employees within the organization
  • Ability to work with others as part of cross-functional team, build consensus, and achieve results across a variety of distinct groups.
  • You must be able to lead and influence others and be comfortable presenting in front of large groups of people
  • Strong ability to inspire and build a mindset and culture of innovation within your team and beyond.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Deep performance, active and/ or outdoor industry knowledge, being able to act as a market expert for the business.
  • A relevant bachelor’s degree (preferred) or equivalent relevant experience
  • 5+ years management experience and success w/ cross functional partnerships.
  • High degree of agility and adaptability
  • Proven skills in selecting talent and developing others.


Pay Range:


$146,880.00 USD - $220,320.00 USD annually


Incentive Potential:


This position is eligible for additional compensation awards that may include an annual incentive plan, sales incentive, or commission potential. Specific details of the additional compensation eligibility for this position will be provided during the recruiting and interview process.


Long_Term_Incentive:


This position is eligible to be nominated annually to participate in a Long-Term Incentive Plan. Specific details of the plan will be provided during the recruiting and interview process.
