The Telemetry Technician (U) provides indirect patient care by monitoring the status of patients on telemetry as ordered by physicians through assessment of Electrocardiographic (ECG) rhythm strips and arrhythmia interpretation. An employee in this position possesses knowledge of cardiac electrical waveforms, identifies possible causes of arrhythmias and seeks solutions to correct the problem. Identifies and responds to potentially life-threatening rhythm changes. A telemetry technician participates in emergency responses by documenting rhythms, continues ECG monitoring with accurate interpretation of cardiac rhythms and dysrhythmias and interval measurements. Monitors cardiac functions and communicates all findings to the assigned nurse or charge nurse including all changes in heart rhythms.

Work Location: UHealth Tower
- Assures that all telemetry monitor alarms are always on and audible to an appropriate volume.
- Complies with the employee code of ethics and standards of behavior.
- Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization Knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology in relation to wave morphology, and voltage as shown through the conduction system and strip interpretation
- Recognizes and immediately reports dysrhythmias to the appropriate staff.
- Retrieves rhythms stored in memory upon request.
- Communicates appropriately and clearly to primary nurse, charge nurse, co-workers, and physicians
- Documents PR interval, rate, and rhythm on the recorded strip every 4 hours.
- Recognizes interference and is able to correct the problem as observed by the nurse.
- Oversees supply inventory and reports malfunctioning equipment.
- Observes the cardiac rhythms on the monitors on a continuous basis during the shift.
- Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
- Records monitor strips on all patients every 4 hours.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent
Successful completion of EKG certification program from accredited organization.
Certification and Licensing:
Certification in relevant specialty or field
Valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Experience:
Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:
- Knowledge of telemetry services
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

- Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
- Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
