Description


The mission of the Idaho Industrial Commission is to fairly administer the Idaho Workers' Compensation Law.


The Compliance Specialist interprets and applies statutes, rules, and regulations to determine whether an employer is subject to the insurance requirements of Idaho Workers' Compensation Insurance Law. Evaluates business operations and processes to resolve worker misclassification issues and to ensure proper application exemption criteria. Gathers and analyzes employer related data to determine compliance with Idaho's insurance requirements and to certify extraterritorial coverage requests; Provides technical assistance to ensure policies meet Idaho's proof of coverage requirements and third party electronic policy submission parameters. Explains policies, procedures and technical information to workers' compensation stakeholders; Creates detailed records of contact to support decision making in regard to liability determinations, initiating and closing investigations, and to substantiate compliance information for penalty assessments and court filings.

Example Of Duties


  • Conducts fact-finding interviews to obtain information about business operations and processes to make determinations on liability for coverage.
  • Researches and analyzes compliance records, business documents, policy databases, and other available resources to determine compliance with the Workers' Compensation Insurance Law.
  • Explains policy-reporting requirements to employer representatives, insurance agents and carriers.
  • Reviews canceled policy reports, prepares and mail notices of non-compliance to employers. Monitor responses, prepares and mails follow-up notices.
  • Researches, interprets, and explains statutes, agency rules, policies and Compliance procedures to employers, employer representatives, medical professionals, insurance agents and carriers.
  • Reviews business filings, wage data, and financial records to determine if workers meet codified exemption criteria.
  • Monitors all incoming Employer Compliance data sources to determine appropriate division for case management system and automated processing activities.
  • Performs detailed analysis of Idaho business registrations, Department of Labor wage data, Secretary of State business filings, and related employer records to conduct liability determinations for insurance coverage.
  • Monitors incoming policy data to ensure coverage details meet Idaho proof of coverage requirements.
  • Evaluates business operations and processes to determine proper classification of workers.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Experience using word processing software to create and modify documents
  • Experience interpreting, explaining, and applying regulations, laws, or complex policies to carry out assignments
  • Experience researching a variety of sources to solve problems
  • Experience monitoring a records system to identify and correct errors
  • Experience storing, entering, and retrieving data using a computerized records system
  • Experience using spreadsheet software
  • Ability to retrieve and compile information in a report format using data based software
