Distinguishing Characteristics:

The incumbent is required to complete and maintain a background clearance in order to complete essential duties and is required to maintain confidentiality of CJIS information and systems. The incumbent serves as the primary technical contact for the Systems Administrator under administration. Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) training and certification is required to be completed within 90 days of start date.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Works under the general supervision of the Police Information Technology Manager to oversee system server equipment and configurations in a law enforcement environment. Documents and configures server administration tasks including user/group administration, security permissions, and group policies. Conducts research on event log errors and provides solutions. Ensures system architecture components are working together seamlessly. Monitors data center health using preexisting management tools and respond to hardware issues. Assists with building, testing, and maintaining new servers. Maintains internal infrastructure requirements including, virtual and physical servers, routers, switches, firewalls, security updates, intranet, local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), and network segments. Assists in troubleshooting and provide technical support when needed. Performs routine/scheduled audits of all systems. Creates, maintains, and updates server environment used to store crime data. Installs, reviews, and maintains desktop software to ensure operational continuity. Creates and prepares a variety of correspondence, proposals, memoranda, and other written documents by utilizing various computer applications. Interacts and communicates management and staff on a variety of issues and concerns dealing with Server Systems configuration and functionality. Assists with company infrastructure planning, implementation, improvements. Travels to various police precincts to inspect system setups and needs. Provides after hours coverage for change windows and scheduled processes as needed. Communicates to customers on project progressions, impending changes and agreed outages.


OTHER FUNCTIONS:

1. Assists in maintaining data quality assurance/quality control procedures and standards.

2. Performs additional functions (essential or otherwise) which may be assigned.


TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. Requires the ability to operate specialized technical and general office equipment such as a computer, copier, telephone, software, and systems databases. Requires the ability to read and understand network diagrams and infrastructure. Must be able to sit for a prolonged period of time in front of a computer monitor. Requires the ability to operate an automobile. Requires the ability to perform a wide range of motions such as walking, standing, lifting (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), or climbing. May occasionally be assigned to work evenings, weekends, overnight, and holiday.


TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in an office environment. Travels frequently to offices and precincts throughout the city.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field and seven (7) years’ professional experience; or any combination of experience, certifications and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Working experience on physical and virtual environments highly preferred. VMware, HyperV, Commvault, Structure Query Language (SQL), Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), and Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) certifications is preferred. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license as a condition of continued employment. Must complete the Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) training and certification within 90 days of employment.

Compensation

  • Minimum Salary: US Dollar (USD) 61,572.42
  • Maximum Salary: US Dollar (USD) 95,430.40
  • Pay Basis: Yearly
