Job Description
Summary


As a Sustainable Design Program Expert, you will be responsible for delivering expert resources to improve products, services, and skills; anticipating and meeting customer needs, tracking and fostering innovation and evolving technology with an emphasis on sustainable design, human health, and adaptation to climate change. Location of position: This is a Virtual position within GSA, the Office of Government-wide Policy (OGP), Office of High Performance Green Buildings.


Duties


Serve as an expert on sustainable design initiatives, planning and managing or reviewing and recommending innovations such as systems, operating positions, management philosophies impacting critical agency systems or programs. Performs project management responsibilities to include executing procedures for timely and satisfactory project completion; evaluating and modifying processes; portfolio management, optimizing returns on portfolio assets; and procurement management. Deliver expert resources to improve products, services, and skills; tracking and fostering innovation and evolving technology with an emphasis on sustainable design, human health, and adaptation to climate change. Lead multiple efforts for new and cutting edge initiatives related to sustainable design. Leverage Talent to create a performance-based culture; provides tools and resources to staff and participates in recruitment activities to attract the best talent. Coordinate the design and execution of applied research efforts related to the design, construction and operation of high-performance facilities that support human health, comfort, and performance. Apply a wide range of qualitative and quantitative methods to assess and improve program effectiveness. Serve as a trusted advisor to customers, working with Subject Matter Experts to achieve results, maintaining a positive working relationship with internal and external clients, monitoring and evaluating customer needs, providing expert advice in developing and executing offerings, finding multiple realistic and workable solutions to problems.


Requirements


  • Meet time-in-grade within 30 days of the closing date, if applicable

If selected, you must meet the following conditions: Current or Former Political Appointees: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule C or Non­Career SES employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the HR Office. Failure to disclose this information could result in disciplinary action including removal from Federal Service. Serve a one year probationary period, if required. Undergo and pass a background investigation (Tier 2 investigation level). Have your identity and work status eligibility verified if you are not a GSA employee. We will use the Department of Homeland Security’s e-Verify system for this. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of continued employment.


Qualifications

For a brief video on creating a Federal resume, click here. The GS-15 salary range starts at $136,908 per year. Locality will be determined upon selection. If you are a new federal employee, your starting salary will likely be set at the Step 1 of the grade for which you are selected. To qualify, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level or higher in the Federal service. Specialized experience in leading efforts to design and implement initiatives related to sustainable design; planning or managing agency sustainability programs; serving as a technical advisor or expert on sustainability efforts; collaborating with federal agencies and Subject Matter Experts to develop policy and recommend innovations such as systems, operating positions, management philosophies that are impactful for agency systems or programs; experience applying sustainable design principles and practices to coordinate research and provide interpretation of federal regulations to others on sustainable design.
