Job Description

Summary

The Supervisor, Yard Control assists the General Manager, Port Operations with the planning, direction, and assignment of equipment with all PR yard operations. When needed, will also assist in the discharge and loading of vessels at PR terminals. The Supervisor provides direction and ensures that operations are carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with business plan objectives.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinates with other departments on equipment status.
  • Ensures empties and loads are available for dispatch in good condition. Follows special procedures to ensure that customers receive safe, clean equipment. This includes, but is not limited to, specialized water-testing procedures.
  • Ensure operations are carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Handles various administrative tasks including but not limited to maintaining arrival/departure check lists, arrival and departure messages, input for marine reports, review of invoices for correctness, responses to correspondence related to the Marine Department as needed.
  • Works closely with the General Manager to ensure that terminal functions are carried out correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Supervises yard operation to ensure proper storage, maintenance and abuse prevention.
  • Assists with vessel operations when needed, including arrangements for arrival and departure of vessels as needed.
  • Ensures compliance with company policies on safety, cleanliness, and security requirements.
  • Identifies equipment problems and provides information on damage to Maintenance department to coordinate repairs.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Upholds company policies.
  • Follows written procedures as documented in the Trailer Bridge ISO9001:2000 quality processes.
  • Assists with other duties as directed by the General Manager, PR.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with union labor.
  • Good PC skills, including MS Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Good working knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Ability to supervise personnel.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including long shifts.
  • Strong written/verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • 3-4 years of experience in marine operations; with supervisory experience preferred.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English).
