The Summer School Teacher of Record will work under the direction and supervision of the Summer School Principal, the Regional Director of Operations, and/or any other applicable regional leader(s). Each teacher will be responsible for a group of students and is charged with the safety, well-being, and overall care of the students for the duration of the day. The Teacher of Record facilitates ongoing learning experiences that support TFA Corps Members in making connections between the content they are learning, their instructional practice, and their leadership development priorities. Teachers of Record will make key contributions to the processing and coaching that Corps Members need to make progress toward pre-service outcomes. Candidates for this role are either school employees or candidates with prior coaching experience of adult learners who will work with a cohort of Corps Members from a specified region. Teachers of Record will work with the TFA School Directors and MD, and LDs in their region and are centrally supported by the School Site Coordinator.

Training
Excellent writing and communication skills and the ability to build relationships with program leaders, community members, and families
Highly organized, able to multitask, and consistently meet deadlines
Experience with online learning tools, databases, and Google Suite programming

Time Commitment
Teachers of Record will be required to attend two days of pre-service training, where they will meet their mentees and learn the coaching and support model.
For staff in Pre-Service, this may look like this: Recognizing and interrupting the ways systemic oppression and white supremacy manifest in interpersonal and group interactions Examining power and decision-making through leading CMs and providing feedback
A commitment to explicitly naming and interrupting racism and classism in all of its manifestations

DURATION
Orientation Jun 22, 2023 toJun 23, 2023.
Summer School Jun 26, 2023 to Jul 21, 2023 Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Time off for Independence Day on July 3rd and July 4th.
This is a seasonal position; typical work hours are 8:00 am - 3:00 pm but may include additional hours for training, meetings, and other events. Pay for this seasonal position is a one-time stipend of $5,000 to be paid at the conclusion of summer school. If a staff member is unable to meet all expectations, the stipend may be altered to reflect the completed work.

General Functions

  • Utilize appropriate wellness and disciplinary procedures and techniques in accordance with the school site wellness plan.
  • Ensure a safe and effective arrival, dismissal, lunch, and recess for all students.
  • Communicate with families to establish relationships and, as needed, provide support throughout the summer.
  • Supervise and monitor students during assigned hours (8:00 - 3:00 (later if need be).
  • Implement all site rules and safety regulations, including COVID safety procedures and protocols, within the structure of the Rocketship school and classroom culture.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Supervisor to support the Summer Program
  • Report any unsafe conditions, including equipment, to administrators immediately.
  • Implement all Summer School activities and plans for the group of students.
  • Attend staff meetings and in-service training as deemed necessary for the position
  • Collaborate with other members of the Summer School team to provide a safe environment for all students and staff.

TFA Corps Member Training and Practicum (RLP AND RISE ONLY)

  • Support CMs with parent communication through modeling, co-calling, and observation.
  • Build strong, asset-based relationships with Corps Members that can be leveraged in pursuit of strong outcomes with Corps Members and students.
  • Done in partnership with CMs (at least observing, if not participating)Informal observations with “in the moment” coaching and providing feedback to the teacher around classroom management and structures/routines, and the lesson structure (it doesn’t need to be content related).
  • What jumping in for classroom support can/should look like, wait time to see how CM will handle the situationExplicit naming of what it should look like for TORs and CMsFacilitating short practice sessions for CMs during their planning timeBrief orientation for TORs, across all sites, prior to starting the summer program, on a training day, while CMs are in a national call, MDLDs meet with TORs to go through expectations
  • 1 formal observation for each CM in Cohort. MD, LD will share the observation schedule, and TOR will schedule accordingly.
  • Capacity to support teachers who are planning on a day that they are in the classroom but not the lead teaching CM, doesn’t need to be content specific, but ways of engaging students and teacher moves.
  • Rocketship: facilitate learning during tutoring block for students who are not in tutoring.
  • Classroom support – TOR supports students getting to class in the morning, transitioning students in the mornings, as students leaveTORs present in the classroom during the CM teaching blocks – explicitly naming what it looks like/should look like
  • Coaching based on observation piece while their co-CM teacher is teachingTOR meet with MDLD twice weekly to discuss CM concerns and noticing, figure out cadence based on high needs as the summer goes on
