Summer Internship: Data Science / Machine Learning

Brief is building next-generation user friendly tools empowering underserved consumers and communities to understand the terms and conditions that they sign. Our mission is to create and cultivate an empathetic and supportive AI-driven experience for the average customer who may have a literacy or language barrier and no legal support.

As a new, emerging startup, our roles are diverse and flexible with an opportunity for a Data Science / Machine Learning Intern to participate in all aspects of the startup process or to specialize in one specific process. Our roles are project-based with minimum expectations of 10-20 hours per week for 14 consecutive weeks and weekly check-ins. As one of the first data science specialists on the team, your work will directly impact the early successes of the company. We expect candidates to take initiative, work autonomously, and communicate frequently.

Minimum Qualifications

- 1-5 years Machine Learning experience (including college experience!) building models, doing quantitative analysis, and/or deploying to production sites. We need someone who has seen the entire ML process from end to end

- Current Student in Math, Data Science, Computer Science, or other quantitative field. BA/BS preferred but not required

- Portfolio of past and current data science projects.

- Experience with Large Language Models and/or Natural Language Processing

- Fluency in SQL or other programming languages. Some development experience in at least one scripting language (PHP, Python, Perl, etc.)

- Experience with data cleaning without affecting results

- Ability to initiate and drive projects to completion with minimal guidance

- Basic understanding of statistical analysis

- Ability to communicate the results of analyses in a clear and effective manner

Role Expectations

- Build and implement production-ready Machine Learning and Deep Learning models for deployment to customers.

- Train models to operate on widely varied data set sizes. Understand and communicate the limitations of varied data sets.

- Scale ML models to be able to support future use cases and customer features.

- Work with a small, but passionate team of entrepreneurs and engineers to build cool, helpful stuff

Location

- Fully Remote but candidates should be available for sync-ups on Pacific Time

- 1 Week off-site to meet/work/celebrate with the team
