We are seeking motivated and engaging camp counselors to join our growing camp. In this position, you will play a key role in leading our campers through their day while making sure they have a safe and fun experience at camp. You will also collaborate with other counselors to facilitate off-mountain recreational activities.
Campers range in age from eight to seventeen. Counselors will be responsible for a group of up to eight campers each week. All counselors and campers are housed in the camp dorms at Tilton School.
This is an overnight position. Minimum work shifts are from 4:30pm to 9:00am. (You are able to sleep during the night.) Counselors should expect to work at least one weekend during the camp season. Counselors with at least four years of driving experience and a clean driving record may be tasked with transporting campers to and from the mountain in the Highland Camps vans.
Camp Counselor Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure camper safety and monitor their activities.
- Supervise campers during meals.
- Instruct campers in daily routines and cleanup tasks.
- Set up and ensure recreation equipment is secure and stored properly.
- Follow safety and emergency procedures and guidelines.
- Plan and oversee camper activities.
Camp Counselor Requirements and Qualifications
- Complete Highland Camps online training program through the ACA.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
- Be engaging in camp activities.
- First aid and CPR training and certification.
- Comfortable in a team-player role.
- Strict adherence to camp philosophy, standards, and goals.
- Previous experience as a counselor-in-training, teacher, child care, or related field preferred.
- Ability to serve as a positive role model and mentor.
- Attend Highland Camps Staff Orientation.
