King County Teen Program is seeking enthusiastic and responsible youth to join our team as Summer Aides to support our 8-10 week Summer Recreation Program.
As a Summer Aide, you will work closely with a Program Leader to supervise groups of children and teens in a variety of fun and engaging recreational activities. You'll be part of our front-line staff and have the opportunity to teach activities like games, arts and crafts, athletics, and special events, all while gaining valuable experience in leadership, teamwork, and communication.
While not always working under direct supervision, you'll receive frequent inspections and reviews from a supervisor to ensure you're doing your best work.
All successful candidates will be required to complete a background check prior to employment.

Who is Eligible: This position is open to all qualified applicants. Must be 16 years old.

Work Location: White Center Community Center/Steve Cox Memorial Park, 1321 SW 102nd Seattle Washington, 98146 and/or Skyway Park Area.
Work Schedule: The work schedule for this position is flexible and can be varied and event-driven. This position will work approximately 12-20 hours per week and may require weekends and late evening work.
Union Representation: This position is non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible.

Job Duties

Core Work Duties:

  • Attend scheduled staff training and meetings.
  • Work with Summer Program Leader to set up, serve, and clean up snack and/or lunch for youth.
  • Work with Summer Program Leader to plan, lead, and clean up low-organized activities for youth. Programs include sports, games, arts and crafts, small group activities, quiet and reading activities and special events.
  • Be proactive in resolving conflict among youth and ensuring a safe environment.
  • Interact with co-workers and participants in a positive, cooperative and supportive manner, and serve as a role model for youth at all times.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
Minimum Requirements:
  • Experience providing excellent customer service to a diverse customer base
  • Required to hold up-to-date CPR and First Aid certifications. (If necessary, help will be provided to obtain the certifications in compliance with state and local regulations)
  • Ability to provide and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to work effectively and communicate clearly with the public and fellow employees.
  • Working knowledge of the principles, rules, materials and equipment required in a variety of recreational activities.
  • Must be 16 years of age to apply.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to prepare written reports as assigned.
  • Address and report emergency situations that may arise.

Physical Requirements
  • May require lifting, bending, reaching, sitting for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to assist with program set-up and take-down.
  • Ability to working outdoors in all types of weather as needed.
