We are seeking a Student Law Clerk to join the Foundation in its mission of benefitting, supporting, and enhancing the California Community Colleges—the largest and most diverse system of higher education in the nation.
What You’ll Do
Under the direction of the Senior Director of CollegeBuys, the Student Law Clerk is responsible for providing the CollegeBuys program with a wide range of support, including but not limited to, contract drafting and lifecycle management, insurance compliance, contract compliance, risk management, information governance, customer service, and other administrative tasks. The incumbent will work closely with the organization’s Legal and Contracts departments to ensure alignment.
What you bring
● Facilitate and assist with tracking contracts and certificates of insurance (including additional insured and other endorsements) and other contract requirements to ensure agreements are current and vendor’s provisions follow the Foundation’s Contracts Policy and in coordination with the Legal Department’s requirements.
● Assist with developing an effective practice of contracts inventory and management.
● Communicate timely and effectively with internal and external contacts regarding the status of contracts, insurance issues, projects and/or other various documents or processes, including providing necessary information and following up.
● Provide general administrative support to supervisor such as: proofreading and formatting documents; organizing contract and legal files; filing; preparing correspondence and mailing; scheduling appointments; and other administrative tasks.
● Assist with implementation of an organization-wide Information Governance project.
● Conduct policy/legislation-related research and draft research memoranda on a wide range of topics relating to contract compliance.
ATTRIBUTES FOR SUCCESS
● Must be actively and presently enrolled at an ABA accredited law school; current 2nd or 3rd year students preferred.
● Knowledge of contract law, business law and/or experience in contracts administration.
● Ability to conduct legal research.
● Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple projects.
● Effective communication, prioritization, customer service, time management, multitasking, and analytical skills required.
● Ability to exercise good judgment and escalate critical issues and sensitive matters, as necessary.
● Outstanding attention to detail and follow-through.
● Ability to get along and work effectively with others.
● Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.
● Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, database-related software applications and office equipment required.
● Regular, predictable attendance.
● Passionate about providing students with stronger pathways to education and building a more just and equitable California overall.
● A self-starter and quick learner who is highly motivated and outcome-oriented, always seeking innovative approaches to project execution.
● A strategic and creative thinker who can problem-solve, working within and across teams to swiftly respond to needs identified across the California Community Colleges.
● Practices ownership, takes accountability, and has the ability to project manage, prioritize tasks, and deliver quality products on time with limited supervision.
● Ability to work on a fast-paced team and build and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
● Knowledge of, or willingness to learn about, the California Community College system and the Foundation’s mission.

Budgeted Hourly Pay Range:
$18 - $19
Final salary and rates are based on education, experience, skills relevant to the role, and internal equity.
