Fox TV Stations
FOX Television Stations owns and operates 29 full power broadcast television stations in the U.S. These include stations located in 14 of the top 15 largest designated market areas, or DMAs, and duopolies in 11 DMAs, including the three largest DMAs (New York, Los Angeles and Chicago). Of these stations, 18 are affiliated with the FOX Network. In addition to distributing sports, entertainment and syndicated content, our television stations collectively produce approximately 1,200 hours of local news every week. These stations leverage viewer, distributor and advertiser demand for the FOX Network’s national content.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Join an exciting and active team supporting new digital experiences in Local News, covering 17 local television markets nationwide. This role is critical to the success of Fox Television Station’s live streaming products, particularly our new flagship Connected TV product, FOX Local and the end-to-end technical delivery of a best in class streaming experience. Responsibilities:
  • Help analyze and improve existing video architecture, design, and delivery.
  • Create diagrams depicting dependencies and data flow between components.
  • Investigate and resolve application and system functionality-related issues, assist with troubleshooting, and help digital content producers with technical issues and concerns.
  • Provide recommendations to help drive process improvement for quality engineering
  • Own deliverables such as, but not limited to issues and risks logs, test strategy, test plan, and communications (written and verbal) to stakeholders – including senior management and executives.
  • Responsible for ensuring production services are operated in a consistent and scalable manner, delivering a high-quality experience to millions of viewers across digital platforms, mobile applications, and websites.
  • Provide technical expertise and recommendations in assessing new software projects and initiatives to support, enhance, and improve the efficiency of the business.
  • Optimize, monitor and enhance content and delivery pipelines.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary and appropriate.
  • Collaborate in deployment activities and conduct system integration validation.
  • Execute production changes to Digital systems, infrastructure, products, and platforms in support of event and release activities.
  • Provide first-level internal support to stakeholders on video-related issues. Leveraging monitoring and operational tools and dashboards.
Requirements:
  • Familiarity with video technologies such as video encoding/packaging and video/audio quality analysis.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in a production/operational role.
  • Quality Engineering experience helping manage multiple integrated deployment environments.
  • Understanding of various types of Video Streaming Protocols such as HLS, DASH, SRT, RTP-FEC, RTMP, Zixi, & WebRTC.
  • Technical background with a detailed understanding of web, mobile, and OTT platforms.
  • Experience using hardware and software encoders and advanced knowledge of video compression and codecs, such as SMPTE ST-2110, JPEGXS, HEVC, MPEG-2, & H.264
  • Schedule flexibility is key to support the operational needs of the business; this role will operate on an adjusted schedule including weekends, overnights, early mornings, etc…
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment and make quick decisions and keep a cool head while under pressure.
  • Comprehension of various industry standards and specifications related to video advertising and content switching such as SCTE-35, SCTE-130, SCTE-224, VAST, and FAST/AVOD monetization.
  • Proven understanding of internet technologies, especially streaming and cloud technologies and services, basic network components and how they interoperate, as well as Internet protocols and configurations.
  • Self-starter, strong communications, analytical, and process skills set.
  • Understanding of Internet delivery-based content delivery at scale, in particular, CDN management and end-user QoS/QoE monitoring.
Preferred Skills:
  • Familiarity with common EPG and metadata formats such as XML, JSON, BXF, & MRSS
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent practical experience in Engineering, IT, Computer Science or related Tech field.
  • Knowledge of Streaming Video Software, Live Production, Playout / Automation Systems, & Video Management Systems such as TVU Channel, TVU Producer, Akta MCP, iTX, & MPX, Brightcove, LTN Schedule, Amagi Cloudport.
  • Microservice, AWS, Cloud engineering & architecture experience. Past experience with system integration and successful deployment of video products.
  • Cable and video Industry experience; specifically, with Dynamic Ad Insertion and Video Delivery Pipelines.
