Job Responsibilities

25% 1. Maintains the annual district physical inventory.

  • Processes all requests for deletion, disposal, transfer, and surplus in SAP .
  • Issues all inventory tags .
  • Processes all inventory new purchases .
  • Maintains district master inventory list and supervises Bureau of Administration physical inventory.


25% 2. Supervises overall operation of Administration Motor Pool.

  • Orders credit cards, license plates/replacement plates and vehicle registration ID's for all district vehicles.
  • Ensures the upkeep (preventive maintenance) of motor pool vehicles such that they are clean and in safe/reliable working condition.
  • Ensures all fuel purchases, repair invoices, new vehicle/check-in invoices and recall notices for Administration and Program Development are processed by entering in AMP.
  • Manages district motor pool vehicles to assure vehicles are dispatched properly and closes/cancels out trip tickets.


10% 3. Monitors Receiving operations.

  • Takes all employee photos, electronic access cards and photo ID cards for use with the Velocity security system.
  • Ensures proper receipt, routing, and distribution of all freight parcels
  • Handles all outgoing USPS mail and UPS parcels and ensures needed supplies are on hand.
  • Maintains accurate records of all incoming and outgoing parcels .


10% 4. Maintains commuting miles database and tracks vehicle liability coverage.

  • Ensures Certification of State Vehicle Assignment Automotive Liability Coverage is completed annually and obtained for New Vehicle Assignment as well as Personal Vehicle Assignment Requests.
  • Inputs Individually Assigned Vehicle Logs for all assigned vehicles in district.

10% 5. Administers the district recycling, shredding and surplus property programs.

  • Ensures that recycling, shredding or disposal of scrap metal, obsolete state records are in accordance with various state record retention/schedule guidelines/policies.


5% 6. Serves as designated lead worker.

  • Provides guidance and training to assigned staff .
  • Assigns and reviews work .
  • Advises immediate supervisor regarding performance of staff .


5% 7. Maintains the district's supply operation to ensure supplies (including printer cartridges) are stocked, issued, and inventoried properly.


5% 8. Administers the daily maintenance of the vending (food) service for the Regional Headquarters.


5% 9. Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of those enumerated above.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Minimum Qualifications

1. Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years high school.


2. Requires two years of experience in keeping of stores and stores records.


Preferred Qualifications

1. Prefer extensive knowledge of storekeeping and warehousing methods and procedures in the receipt, storage, and shipment of a variety of goods.


2. Prefer ability to keep perpetual inventory records.


3. Prefer ability to make inspections for quality of goods against purchase orders and specifications.

Conditions of Employment

1. Must pass a background check.


2. This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(c)). Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.


3. Ability to perform arduous labor.

The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking to hire a Storekeeper II. The successful candidate will, under the direction of the Business Service Manager, supervise the Administrative motor pool, Bureau of Administrations physical inventory, and headquarters shipping and receiving. This position coordinates the district physical inventory, recvcling, shredding and food (vending).
