THE IDEAL CANDIDATE


The Health Services Agency is looking for a Storekeeper II who will manage the inventory, organization, and retention of records for the department per mandates and pertinent code. The ideal candidate is an ambitious self-starter who can work independently with minimal direction given. Some supervision experience is also desirable as this person will assist in supervising and scheduling routes for Stock Delivery Clerks. When needed, this position assists the Facilities Operations Manager in carrying out given tasks during special project assignments. Computer literacy with great attention to detail is necessary.

THE POSITION The Storekeeper II orders, receives, stores, and issues supplies and records, and maintains data on the receipt and issuance of supplies. This classification spends the majority of their time processing storeroom paperwork and may supervise a small group in receiving and distributing stock. The Level II position has more experience than the Level I and performs with more independence of action within established guidelines. This position is subject to overtime, standby, and callback assignments. Performs related duties as assigned.


Unless otherwise provided, this position is part of the Classified Service of the County and is assigned to the Mid-Management/Supervisory bargaining unit for labor relations purposes.


Individuals who are in a full-time classification position are required to serve a twelve-month probationary period, which may be extended an additional six months, for a total of eighteen months.


Incumbents may also be subject to overtime, standby, callback, weekend, holiday and shift assignments as identified in their MOU (Memorandum of Understanding).

Typical Tasks


  • Consult with departmental representatives in relation to the correct handling of their supplies.
  • Take proper care of stock and supplies on hand, and maintain storeroom equipment;
  • Recommend repair, replacement or purchase of new equipment;
  • Instruct personnel on the proper way to store and issue supplies;
  • Maintain inventory control records indicating quantity on hand, maximum and minimum stock levels, and usage dates;
  • Keep inventory records and maintain sufficient supplies on hand to fill anticipated needs;
  • Maintain adequate records on all forms and supplies;
  • Assist in the preparation of departmental budget requests, estimating and anticipating changes in the level of service and new equipment needed;
  • Manage stockless, online office supply system;
  • Organize, research and analyze usage rates of materials and supplies which are provided to departments;
  • Supervise the receiving, checking, storing and shipping of items such as: office and janitorial supplies, hardware, dry goods, foodstuffs and/or equipment parts;
  • Process invoices to ensure billing is proper and correct; and

KNOWLEDGE


  • Basic storekeeping principles and methods such as inventory control, shipping and receiving, and requisitioning supplies;
  • Principles of supervision and training.
  • Maintaining records of incoming and outgoing supplies; and
SKILLS/ABILITIES


  • Requisition materials in a manner which will result in neither over nor under stocking;
  • Maintain personnel records including evaluations, disciplinary actions, etc.;
  • Lift, carry and push supplies and equipment;
  • Read and write English sufficiently to fill out labels and read requisitions; and
  • Supervise the work activities of other employees in the inventory record keeping and other functions of the storeroom.
  • Organize and utilize storage space to the optimum;
  • Issue and store supplies properly;
  • Keep up-to-date inventories by maintaining records of incoming and outgoing supplies;
  • Estimate future supply requirements on the basis of past needs and projected workload;


Education/Experience


  • One (1) year experience comparable to a Storekeeper I; OR
  • Two (2) years' experience issuing, storing and ordering supplies.


LICENSE


Applicants must possess and maintain a valid California Driver's License and remain free from repeated preventable accidents.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

  • Eligible Lists. Candidates who pass the examination will be placed on an eligible list for that classification. Eligible lists are effective for six months but may be extended up to eighteen months.
  • Oral Examination. Applicants are invited to a panel interview in which they will be evaluated by County subject matter experts.
  • Written Examination. Applicants will be invited to participate in a written exam that tests knowledge for the position.
  • Application Review and Screening. Applications are carefully screened based on information provided. Those who submit incomplete applications that lack relevant qualifications or do not submit all required documents will not be invited to move on.
