Job Description
We are hiring Senior Storekeeper for one of our clients in Modesto, CA.

  • Perform the most difficult storekeeping work.
  • Coordinate and participate in the daily operation of the central warehouse; receive, unpack, count, and inspect materials to ensure accurate quality and quantity.
  • Marginal Functions: Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Exercises supervision over assigned operations and maintenance and administrative support staff.
  • Participate in evaluating the activities of staff, recommending improvements and modifications.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, and the public using principles of good customer service.
  • Operate equipment, including a forklift and office machines, as necessary.
  • Plan, prioritize, and review the work of staff assigned to a variety of storekeeping functions.
  • Maintain adequate stock levels and records on all materials; participate in scheduled inventories.
  • Purchase and order varied supplies, materials, and equipment as needed; prepare purchase orders as necessary; follow up on material not received in agreed amount of time.
  • Develop schedules and methods to accomplish assignments ensuring work is completed in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Provide and coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies.
  • Receives direction from higher level supervisory, management, or department head staff.
  • Ensure the proper maintenance and security of central stores and surplus storage buildings and grounds.
  • Check shipping invoices against purchase orders for discrepancies in terms of order.
  • Compile records of supply transactions; prepare month end reports.
  • Observe and maintain a safe working environment in compliance with established safety programs and procedures.
  • Contact vendors and secure price quotations and determine availability of materials and goods; place orders.
  • To organize, assign, and review the work of assigned personnel engaged in storekeeping activities; to perform duties requiring specialized knowledge; and to provide administrative support to the assigned supervisor.
  • Contact departments concerning material received for them; see that materials are picked up and proper paperwork in completed.
Skills Required

  • Principles and procedures of record keeping.
  • Understand and apply federal, state, and local and municipal purchasing laws and procedures.
  • Select and recommend the purchase of routinely used materials and supplies; evaluate needs and estimate future supply requirements for parts and other inventory items.
  • Ability to: Provide technical and functional supervision over assigned staff; effectively train staff.
  • Safety hazards and appropriate precautions applicable to work assignments.
  • Basic principles and practices of purchasing.
  • Interpret work orders and explain jobs to other employees.
  • Prepare purchasing specifications; interview and correspond with vendors regarding their products.
  • Operate a forklift and drive a small truck.
  • Types of supplies, materials, and equipment commonly used in a city.
  • Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Estimate future supply needs and assure adequate stock levels.
Experience Required
  • Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
  • License or Certificate: Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license.
  • Two years of responsible experience equivalent to a Stores keeper with the City of Modesto.
Education Required
  • High School diploma or GED equivalency.
Work Hours
  • Schedule- (Assignment hours/schedule): Flexible 29 hours/week
  • Tues-Fri 10:30am-3:30pm
  • Length of Assignment: _On-going no defined end-date
Additional Information
  • Dexterity: frequent grasping, holding, and reaching.
  • Mobility: frequent performance of heavy manual labor; frequent standing for long period of time; frequent bending, squatting and climbing.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed in both an indoor and outdoor environment on a year-round basis, subject to varying weather conditions, street or vehicle noise and a non-climate-controlled warehouse environment. Work may require some exposure to loud equipment and machinery. Positions may require occasional overtime or weekend work and travel is rare
  • PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Environmental: frequent exposure to noise; frequent exposure to chemicals, fumes, and other environmental substances.
  • Hearing/Talking: frequent hearing and talking in person; may be required to hear in noisy conditions.
  • Lifting: frequent lifting up to 75 pounds; occasional lifting up to 100 pounds.
  • Vision: constant use of overall vision.
  • Emotional/Psychological: frequent coworker contact; occasional working alone.
