Position Summary:
Under general direction supervision maintains or assists in receiving, checking, storing, and distributing Pathology reagents/supplies.
Principal Responsibilities:
I. RECEIVING AND DISTRIBUTION ACTIVITY
Oversight of the receiving process of the store room.
Performance Criteria:
- Receives reagents/supplies from Bellevue Receiving Department.
- Checks number of cartons against packing slips to confirm purchase orders.
- Ensures packing slip & boxes received are complete and match purchase orders.
- Responsible for documenting receipt of supplies and distribution to labs.
- Delivers and removes gas tanks for individual sections of the laboratory.
- Investigates problems or discrepancies with deliveries and follows up with the Pathology Purchasing team and Receiving Department.
II. ORDERING, INVENTORY, AND COST CONTAINMENT
Participates in cost control activities and maintains an awareness of the cost impact of decisions and actions.
Performance Criteria:
- Responsible for delivery, rotation and stocking of supplies at each of the individual laboratory sections.
- Monitors storeroom inventories, rotates stock.
- Monitors consumables to ensure that adequate supplies are available at all times
- Monitors and tracks storeroom inventories and notifies the Pathology Purchasing team to order stock replacements.
- Keeps laboratory stocked with all supplies necessary for operation and triggers the reordering of supplies when the inventory level indicates the need.
- Takes necessary precautions to protect stock from deterioration or spoilage.
- Brings problems with orders to the attention of the Pathology Purchasing team.
- Works with Receiving & Pathology Purchasing Agent to close out orders when complete.
III. CHEMICAL STORAGE ROOM
Ensures Chemical Waste is stored appropriately and removed from the premises.
Performance Criteria:
- Ensures chemical waste is not stored on site past 90 days.
- Makes sure all logs associated with chemical waste are completed timely.
- Assists and arranges for chemical waste pick-ups by calling vendor when necessary, at least monthly.
IV. RECORD KEEPING/MISCELLANEOUS
Maintains accurate records.
Performance Criteria:
- Maintains maintenance logs (refrigerators, temperature, eyewash, etc).
- Maintains file for each purchase order and packing slips.
- Keeps copies of all paperwork in a neat and orderly manner.
- Documents supplies that are distributed to referral sites on a weekly basis.
V. TELEPHONE COMMUNICATIONS
Answers the telephone.
Performance Criteria
- Answers the telephone promptly, courteously and patiently.
- Adheres to the hospital’s HIPPA policy.
- Transfers unusual or difficult telephone requests to the Pathology Purchasing team.
VIII. CONFIDENTIALITY
Adheres to hospital and HIPPA guidelines.
Performance Criteria
- Does not share computer access codes with anyone
- Does not leave computer without locking screen
IX. TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT
Participates in in-services, continuing education courses and Department of Pathology Quality Improvement program.
Performance Criteria:
- Maintains an up to date knowledge of policies and procedures in assigned area and responds to, or initiates changes which enhance patient care, for supervisor’s review.
- Attends the monthly Supervisors meetings and other in-service sessions as required.
Other duties as assigned.

There are no formal education or experience requirements for this position.
Must be able to perform the physical tasks of the job.
Department Preferences
- Knowledgeable in Quality Control procedures
- Experience with inventory management and stock handling
